Anyone using their RS-232 connection with Girder?

I was at a high end Home Theater store this weekend and was talking to a salesman about how Crestron utilizes the RS-232 connection instead of the IR connection.

The biggest difference between the IR vs. RS-232 is with 232, you have 2 way communication. Meaning if the volume down on the touchscreen was pressed, you'd see the volume knob on the component move AND if you turned the volume knob on the component, the volume value would change on the touchscreen! This is BIG news in my little world.

If I understand this correctly, your components would never be out of sync because the component would be able to confirm the command it was given ex. 'power on' or 'volume reset'.

Is anyone utilizing their RS-232 port? If so, what component is it you're controlling (ie Pioneer Elite VSX-72TXV). What pitfalls should I avoid when configuring it?

    Thanks,
    Eric
