MD3020E humidity sensor lost to TEMP08

I temporarily removed an MD3020E temp and humidity sensor from my network and the TEMP08 lost the humidity sensor but not the temp sensor. i.e. the temp sensor reports "???" as expected but the humidity sensor (#1 before I removed it) does not. It now reports humidity sensor 2 as sensor 1.

This has given my s/w (Homeseer MCS Temp plug-in) a hard time. Have asked MCS developer if it can read the unique ID of the sensor rather than "sensor #" but wonder why the TEMP08 does not remember my humidity sensor 1 when it remembers my temp sensor 1 (from the same MD3020E) h/w.

    johnnyt,

I need to explain how TEMP08 knows that it needs to report a humidity (or rain, or lightning, or wind speed,or voltage) sensor. Each non-temperature sensor contains memory that is used to store the sensor type. TEMP08 dynamically scans the 1-Wire bus during each poll cycle to determine if there are any of these types of sensors listed. If it finds a, for instance, humidity sensor, it then displays the related reading. If it does not find it, then it ignores that type of reading. This does not apply to temperature sensors of any type. So, in your case, the ??? reading for temperature is valid since the sensor is listed in TEMP08's memory but is not found during the poll. The DS2438 associated with the humidity sensor is not found, so nothing is displayed, not even the ???, for humidity. If you look at your DIS display, the sensor ID is still in memory, but you are probably (depending on software version) getting a ? display next to it, indicating that the sensor type is not known.

    Hope this makes sense.

can you make the TEMP08 report ??? when it has a sensor in memory but doesn't find it on the bus? Personally, I see a number of benefits to that and no disadvantages. Just making the suggestion.

Well, I could, but then the disadvantage is that TEMP08 would not know what TYPe of sensor to report as missing (since the sensor itself has that information stored in it). I have made a change to V2.x (coming soon) which shows the sensor presence, or lack thereof, status in the DIS display but to also show the ??? in the poll display would aggravate some users who do not want to see the ???'s when a sensor is disconnected.
