    Putty to access Temp08

    Hi,
Did any of you attempt to access Temp08 via Putty thru Ubuntu?

    Thanks,
    Aldo

I am actually using one Temp08 via a Dockstar setup with Debian on it. Its very simple but I have Mono running on it with a beta XAP Temp0X GUI. Its working fine seeing all of the devices hanging off it. I am using a USB to serial adapter with it.

Before testing the Mono piece I was able to see the serial transport of it with a simple terminal program.

Using this method you can send XAP out to HS XAP hub for recording temps.

    Code:
    root@ICS-DS2:~# dmesg | grep tty
    [ 0.000000] Kernel command line: console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/sda1 rootdelay=10 rootfstype=ext2 mtdparts=orion_nand:1M(u-boot),4M(uImage),32M(rootfs),-(data)
    [ 0.599520] serial8250.0: ttyS0 at MMIO 0xf1012000 (irq = 33) is a 16550A
    [ 0.923010] console [ttyS0] enabled
    [ 14.342322] usb 1-1.2: ch341-uart converter now attached to ttyUSB0
    Code:
    root@ICS-DS2:~# vncserver

    New 'X' desktop is ICS-DS2:1

    Starting applications specified in /root/.vnc/xstartup
    Log file is /root/.vnc/ICS-DS2:1.log

    root@ICS-DS2:~#

The setup will allow you to build a "miniature" weather station just using a Seagate Dockstar, USB to Serial cable and a Temp05/08.

The snapshot below is what you see when you utilize any browser on any PC on your network. Once you configure this information into HS you can record data whether you are on the local LAN or via the WAN. I'm thinking of setting up a basic weather station in FL using a Seagate Dockstar, Temp08 (or 9097) and some 1-Wire devices.

Great Pete, thank you. I have a spare Temp05 that I was trying to use with Ubuntu. I connected PuTTy via a serial port using the default parameters that Midon had in the documentation. I was able to connect but I was just getting a green cursor. I never used Putty on Linux I was wondering if there is any setting I need to do to connect properly.

      Thanks,
      Aldo

Do you have the terminal-speed string set to 9600 baud instead of 38400 baud (default)?

I went a different way with the terminal session. I installed xfce4 on the Ubuntu box. I then configure a remote desktop:

        "vncserver"

which creates a destop that I can log into with VNC.

In the remote desktop I just bring up a terminal with the USB serial connection at 96008N1 setup.
