    SCHEMA Download...

    James,
With not being able to get to any URL's @ 216.66.19.100, I can not download the newest schema files with the plugin in HomeSeer. I sent you the IP, and a trace that shows where the request is being dropped. Here is the trace again. Anyone have any ideas?

    I have the same problem!

I have the same problem at home. I seem to be able to access www.mi4.biz at work, however, so there may be some type of routing problem.

I can't take my home computer to work so that the plugin can download schemas, though.

Any chance you could package all this stuff up so I could download from work, and thumb-drive it to my home PC?

      xAP Desktop Displays.........

I guess if there is no recourse for those of us that can't get to http://www.mi4.biz/, http://www.xapframework.net/, or http://www.ascentium.co.uk/xap/ which all are on
216.66.19.100, and behind 216.66.24.126, then I will have to scrap all my xAP.
Can't you guys run a mirror or something?
Do the authors care about thier product?
I realize that its free, but thats not good enough if you can't keep up on the updates.

Those three sites load just fine from here. Have you called your ISP and see if they can connect to the site? If it is a routing issue they should have the same problem. Have you ever banned an IP address or range of IP addresses on your computer firewall or on your router? If you have a neighbor using the same ISP, see if they can reach the sites.

          Other side of Pond...

          Zoomkat,
If it was just me, I would use the 4 hours and contact my ISP, Which is Qwest.net.
From my testing, it is ip 216.66.24.126 that is doing the blocking. 216.66.24.126 does not resolve to any DNS Name. When I use IE to go to 216.66.24.126, I get the password prompt as shown. If I cancel I get the returned page as shown.

DNS resolves correctly for all others, as you can see from my router log:

          May 22 06:11:49 - dnsmasq[15174]: query www.xapframework.net from 192.168.1.24
          May 22 06:11:49 - dnsmasq[15174]: forwarded www.xapframework.net to 205.171.3.65
          May 22 06:11:50 - dnsmasq[15174]: reply www.xapframework.net is 216.66.19.100
          May 22 06:11:50 - dnsmasq[15174]: reply xapframework.net is 216.66.19.100
          May 22 06:11:55 - dnsmasq[15174]: query www.ascentium.co.uk from 192.168.1.24
          May 22 06:11:55 - dnsmasq[15174]: forwarded www.ascentium.co.uk to 205.171.3.65
          May 22 06:11:56 - dnsmasq[15174]: reply www.ascentium.co.uk is 216.66.19.100
          May 22 06:11:56 - dnsmasq[15174]: reply ascentium.co.uk is 216.66.19.100

I just can't get past 216.66.24.126 as you can see in my previous Ping results post.

I have searched through all my routers for any rules pertaining to this and have come up blank.

My point on all this is that, these things do happen! It's the internet.
The authors of these apps should try to diversify thier access.
There are other xAP sites that are reachable, couldn't they host the files too.
Also, all of the apps need their schema files updated periodically. This fails.

I tried a dns lookup for 216.66.19.100 and it doesn't show as a valid ip address.
216.66.24.126 comes back as Hurricane Electric , when both get typed in a browser authorization is asked for just as you stated.

My question is where did you get these IP address from?
Do you always use the numerical address?
If I type in the url of all the sites your trying to reach, I get them with no problem.

                Siliconmelt,
If you do a DNS lookup on any of those Names it comes back 216.66.19.100
which is thein the domain of canyon-city.rapidhoster.co.uk. It resolves properly.
and yes I saw where hurricane electric is 216.66.24.126. I am notifing thier IT dept...

Well I would almost have to agree with other replies in that a problem is at your isp end. Maybe a dns foul-up. Have you tried contacting James Traynor on the yahoo group xap_automation ? He might be able to help you or even email you the schemas.

                    Hi,

I have passed on all this info to my hoster so they can look into the issue. I've tried many proxys to check the site and so far they all seem to connect fine, although some were a bit slow but i guess that's probably just the proxy. Basically I can see no reason other than some misconfigured router somewhere, and hopefully my hoster will either find it or shout at the people who run it and get it fixed. I have included below the latest plugin, schema and event files.
Appologies for all this, but as you can imagine it's all out of my hands and yes i'm looking into mirroring all the apps and schemas to one of the other sites which would at least give a level of backup to problems like this.

                    Thanks

                    James

                      More Info...

                      Thanks James,
I understand the complexeties of the issue. I have done a bunch of research with this, networking is one of my main interests, and found a web dns lookup page result that clearly shows, I think, the misconfigured host. It also shows that my ISP, Qwest.net, is not even in the trace. It was only a week or two ago that I started getting these results from trying to go to mi4.biz. It may be thier host thats glueing their lan to some dns servers. I hope they resolve it soon, cause I'm fairly committed to the xAP protocol and it's ease of use w/VB.
Again Thanks for your hard work.

NOTE: Change the attached Tracert.txt to Tracert.htm to view it properly.
I had to change it to fit the messageboards file mask......JG

                        Still cannot dload schema updates...

                        James,
I still can't get to any of previously posted sites or download the schemas through the HS Plugin.
The routing issue is still there. I'm not the only one out this way that can't get there.

Can you mirror somewhere or post any updates here when they become available?

                          Jebus,

After alot of nagging I got nowhere with my current hoster. So I'm in the process of switching. The dns changes are going through at the moment so it shouldn't be too much longer. You can get directly to the new site at the moment using this url
                          http://gaia.universalns.com/~mi4/

Hopefully this should help matters alot!
