Speaker Switching with a SECU 16

    Anyone tried this?

I'm looking for a relatively cheap option to do speaker switching, for low power speakers (TTS and phone only, not music), and, since I have a SECU-16 I thought I could use this.

If I use the SECU, I presume it would be easier on the SECU to connect the speaker wires so that the relays are normally open rather than just whack them straight into the outputs? How would I do this?

    Any other cheapish (UK) options?

    Thanks!

    Impedance

I suspect this will be okay for what you need as long as you pay attention to the impedance you are creating. The addition of speakers to the system via relay closures will alter the impedance seen at the receiver. If this gets out of range, e.g. too low, then V=IR will not be your friend and may decide to stop by and cause harm to your receiver.

This is why there are impedance match volume controls and not simple variable resistors for volume controls.

The AB8SS Speaker Switcher is expensive but handles this problem nicely.
