Rich,
I delayed loading this Beta as I was testing th 2.4.0.27 Beta, only so much testing possible at one time. Finally got to be certain I undersatood that one so I tried itunes....Unfortunately it was a quick on and quick off on this one....Just kept looping loading the library, Itunes was running., started by HS but it wasn't playing anything.....Let me know if you need more info

I had the same problem and a more recent build fixed that, but also introduced a new problem.

This beta fixed some issues I had with 2.5.0.0 where the itunes player would not figure out where it was, or something like that.

It's working quite solidly now.

Thanks for the update.

Please ignore user error - Since I had moved the hpsi_itunes out of the way due to the nas error.......Subsequently I had to reenable the plugin with HS, for all to work correctly.

Finally I got back to this I had a major NAS failure........but 2.5.0.11 has a new error. so no music for another while.

Scripting remote speaker

I'm using the itune's plugin and want to use a couple airport express units as remote zones but I'd like to control what zones are on or off from HStouch. Does anyone know if the remote speaker function can be controlled from HStouch using a script?

TIA

as of a year ago.. many revisions back... no, there was no hook to get at the code... but maybe they addressed the issue in released updates

auto-pause "feature" is back and renders streaming audio useless

Hello,

I reported this years ago as a bug and it was fixed, but it's back again. (Note: when I asked for this fix a few years ago, this bug was considered a feature.) When itunes is playing streamed audio that was initiated by the HS itunes plugin, any other audio event such as a "play sound in background" causes itunes to pause for the duration of the sound playback and then unpause afterwards. For someone who uses HS to play background notification sounds, this auto-pause "feature" ends up making music playback so annoying that it has to just be turned off completely. I have low volume notification sounds for quite a few things so every time a door is closed, or light is automatically turned off, the phone rings, or an email arrives, itunes-initiated streaming music pauses and then unpauses. Not only is this completely unnatural from an auditory point of view by ruining the cadence of song and putting a "sing-a-long-er" off phrase... it's just plain irritating. Even worse is when the streaming station plays an audio header that kicks in every time you play the stream. An un-pause counts as a play so with this auto-pause feature you end up listening to the audio header over and over again as each unpause triggers the audio header to replay. HS controlled Itunes streaming is completely useless for me again due to the auto-pause "feature". Could you please PLEASE return the itunes plugin to not auto-pausing everytime another audio event occurs? Or at least make it an option that can be turned off.

To replicate this irritating behaviour, add this stream to itunes and then play it via the HS itunes plugin. While listening to the music run any HS event that plays a sound....run it a few times. Since this particular stream has an audio header, you'll get to hear it every single time the auto-unpause occurs. Remember you have to start the playback from the HS itunes plugin. If you start playback from itunes itself, HS behaves and doesn't do any auto-pausing.

I personally prefer the pause, as it is too difficult to hear an HS announcement if the music is playing at anything other than a very low volume. I would agree, however, that an option to enable/disable would be desireable.

Pause would be terrible. If the pause is wanted, one should have the ability to enable on the fly. I would set the music volume to a lower level so to be able to differentiate the two sounds.

***MAKE AUTO-PAUSE OPTIONAL***

To auto-pause or not to auto-pause...there's obviously going to be two camps here. The great thing about HS is it's ability to be customized. It lets us each automate the way we see fit. As much as I'd like to see auto-pause murdered dead, boiled down with acid, and buried at the bottom of the sea, I can see how it might be a useful feature for others. The HS folks really needs to make this something that the user can activate/deactivate as needed and not just force everyone to use it. I personally can't use it, and instead have had to resort to simply turning the plugin off and no longer listening to HS controlled music....WHICH SUCKS!

Try this build, in the settings there is an option to disable the pause. If all is ok I will post to the updater:

Well.... it worked in the sense that it added the option to turn off the auto-pause but the plug-in is now causing bigger problems, so many that I've had to just shut it off again. I'm constantly seeing error log entries of type "iTunes" with the Message "Warning, queued command did not complete due to timeout: player_state". It's not just player_state errors I'm seeing either, I also see PlayMusic, set_shuffle_on, set_repeat_on errors etc... when I try to initiate various iTunes events. Sometimes the events actually work but usually they just throw an error. These iTunes errors slow down HS as a whole because non-itunes events end up queuing behind the delayed itunes event. Eventually, the itunes plugin seems to release the event queue and HS runs every queued up event real fast to catch up. Twice I've had this issue trigger my HS controlled security system as I didn't realize that it had been staged when I opened the door and the whole staging sequence got queued behind some delayed itunes that once released allowed HS run through the whole staging sequence in a second or two. No music is better than cracked-out home automation so iTunes is off once again. (I wonder if I set that "Do Not Queue" option on all my security related events, if this would not happen...)
