How to get all the IR codes for almost all Devices

I wrestled with iLearn + WF2IR to program all the aircons in my system a couple of years ago.. about 17 different aircons in total: Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG and Generals. I didn't know of the raw port method, so I just read/restarted iLearn dozens of times. If I remember right, it sometimes didn't finish reading the full IR command and just stuck there until you tell iLearn to reconnect to the device.

In the end I got the commands (even the Daikin!) and it was just a one time deal...

I thought I would bite the bullet and try this for my LG mini-split A/C units. I was able to get in with Putty, entered the command, got a response - then what? I pointed the remote and the IP2IR acknowledged the IR input with a flashing green light, but nothing else. Am I supposed to see the codes in the Putty window to copy and paste into notepad for further editing, or am I missing another command to get the codes out of the device?

I'm sure that may help, but I am having trouble wrapping my mind around where the IP2IR stores the captured code, whether using Putty or iLearn. No matter which method I use and what IR device I use as a source, I never see any codes displayed in the Putty console or the iLearn application. Try as I might,I haven't found any instructions how to use iLearn - I can get it to connect, but that is all.

I am using drule's serial/ip/IR plugin, so I am just pulling the codes out of GC and storing them in the INI file for that plugin, so unfortunately can't help on the rest of the GC stuff.

No, that's the right device. I used the wifi version of that (WF2IR) to learn my remotes. Just don't plug any IR emitters and blast your remote control to the 3 holes (if I'm not mistaken, the middle one is the receiver to learn from).

What I remember from my iLearn session was that it hung a LOT. But if it registers the IR command, it'll show it immediately as a text dump in the iLearn utility, where you can assign a name to that command and learn the next one... The utility will save all the commands as a .txt file when you're done... or in my case, I just copy-pasted the text dumps to a separate text file open on notepad, since I had to reconnect/restart the iLearn quite a few times for each remote.

(Maybe disconnecting/reconnecting was enough).

You will definitely know it when it happens. I found it can take a while before the codes can be recognized so keep pressing the button on your device for a while as it is pointed at the unit. I am using the ITach WF2IR and the HS Global Cache plugin. So when I get the IR code from the IRLearn or Putty I copy and paste it into the plugin where it is saved.

That's the thing, both Putty and iLearn both connect to the device. but neither gives any response to having received IR commands. I tried with an LG A/C remote, Sony remote, Vizio Remote, Yamaha remote and a DirecTV remote. Each was tried in a new session with both methods. When I mentioned a green light flashing earlier, it had nothing to do with receiving IR, it was just the LED over the power connection.

Those codes look like the LG codes for their window units, which are not supposed to work on the mini-splits, but I may try them later. I had downloaded Drule's plug-in, I have the HS plug-in and can try Ultra's plug-in. First I want to figure out what I am doing wrong as far as capturing codes.

The secret was to power cycle the GCIR device. I Installed it yesterday, reserved an IP address for it and power cycled it, no codes would capture. Today I power cycled it for a longer period, reconnected and both methods are capturing code.

Just as I had feared the LG remote spits out a stream of digits with each power on or off command so that the air handler synchronizes with the remote. For example if I take the remote in another room change the fan speed, temperature and swing, turn the remote off, then go back to the room where the unit is and turn it on, it will come on with all of the new settings. So I have some studying to do. It seems to me that I will store a "power ON" setting with all of my standard settings. Then I will learn fan speed change codes (it does a round robin of low, med,high, and varying. then learn temp up and temp down commands. If I have automation turn it on, I will just know it will always come on the standard settings for temp, fan speed, etc.

The codes below give an illustration of the subtle differences. The LG POWER ON 70 and the LG POWER ON 74 are the same except the temperature has been changed. The preamble code of 37878 stays the same on all 70 degree commands but is 37764 when I changed the temperature to 74. These are taken from the iLearn application

It is interesting that the termination number on the iLearn codes (3700) is different from that captured through Putty (4848). None of them are close to those provided by the GC Control tower db.

I've got a lot of fiddling to do to figure this out, but I am optimistic that I will.
