    Matt, I'm with you. I don't use HS yet, but am getting close. One thing that is encouraging to me is that I have a Dell running XP. It is interfaced to SG and runs WinEVM. It also provides Internet radio for whole-house audio. It is on 24/7 and has given me NO problems in a year of continuous operation. The only reboots have been those required to install the monthly updates from MS. (I hope I haven't jinxed myself!!) In addition, I have another Dell running Win95, no less, that has been running continuously for almost two years, again with NO problems.

    I think that if you dedicate a computer to HA, do not use it for web surfing and email, avoid opening and closing windows and starting and stopping multiple applications every day, and you operate behind a firewall and router, the MS problems are significantly reduced.

    We are probably many years away from anything PC based that is as robust as SG, but if I keep the important stuff on SG, then I'm thinking HS is a promising way to expand into options that SG doesn't support, especially if the new plug-in works well.

      The big day is approaching!

      I have ordered a new hard drive to install a fresh install of XP, AT&T voices, and Homeseer 2 onto. (That way, I can build a fresh system with Homeseer 2 and not have the old version 1.7 around).

      Questions:
      If I install HS 2.0 on a machine with HS 1.7 (i.e. upgrade), does it install a new program in a new directory that isn't aware of the old program, or does it try to import all the 1.7 settings and set them up in 2.0?

      I understand that devices are no longer named as "/49" and the like and are now assigned a 3 digit code. So I will have to rewrite all my scripts? I used to avoid functions that looked up devices by name, but perhaps that works now with the new super-plugin? If looking up by functions works well now, I would no longer need to use any device codes in my scripts?

      I am planning to update my Stargate to version 4.0 Has that been successful for everyone with the plug-in? (my IVR board has been decommissioned)

      I own a WaytoCall and HS Phone. Does Homeseer 2.1 include the phone program? I'll have to figure this out because I'll likely have to create everything from scratch again (but hopefully my homeseer phone IVR script will still work or be easily transferred).

      I am so excited to be able to use security events to creat events!! This will be so much more efficient than passing flags and variables around!

      I am excited! It will be a busy day or two, but I hope to report favorably in a week or two!

      (by keeping the old hard drive, I can easily swap in the old system if needed)

        Hi Guys-

        To avoid deleting JDS.ini, delete the entry for gSecurityHC. This means to remove the line entirely. Delete security devs, then re-import and all should be good.

          Hi Tim-

          Didnt read your posts, so I need to address a few things here:

          You can install HS2 into your 1.7 Directory, but it will not do this by default. When you restart HS2, it should find your 1.7 settings and upgrade automatically.

          The three digit code thing was actually a fluke. Due to odd import issues, ajackson (I think) ended up with a few devices whose house codes were changed to numbers. This woulnd not normally happen unless you are running enough plugins to eat up 10-20 house codes. HomeSeer still uses the HouseCode/DeviceCode approach.

          It is recommended that you do a fresh install, which may cause your HouseCodes etc. to change. If you would like, enter the following items into a JDS.ini file in the config folder before you start:

          gVariableHC0=(code, like "[" without quotes. This will force the plugin to use this code.)
          gFlagHC0
          gTimerHC
          gRelayHC...

          etc.

          Please note, you need three entries for variables and flags, like gVariableHC0, gVariableHC1, etc. Other devices do not need this number, i.e., gRelayHC. Atypical entry looks like this:

          gVariableHC=[
          gVariableHC1=
          gVariableHC2=
          gFlagHC=\
          gFlagHC1=
          gFlagHC2=
          gRelayHC=]
          gAnalogHC=^
          gDigitalHC=_
          gTimerHC=`
          gSecurityHC=#

          HS Phone is built into HomeSeer HS2, but it is still separately licensed. With a purchase of the HS2 upgrade, you will automatically get HS Phone for HS2 codes (no additional cost).

          Hope this resolves some questions!

            I can not get the plugin to trip any of my relays.

            They show up just fine in the devices, and when I trip them via stargate (not HS) it shows up in the HS log.

            What am I missing?

            Running 2.1.2431.14686 of SG and 2.2 of HS.

              Works well! Cf. attached jpg file. Be sure you are using SS Plugin 29AUG06. Good Luck, Whitey

                How do I know I am using 29 Aug? The date on my dll is 8/28.

                Further, how are you using winevm and hs at the same time? I am connect to com3. Are you using 2 comports?

                The reason I am getting into this is my IVR board is dying

                  Ok I replaced it with 8/29 from the beginning of this thread and I still can not change the state of relay from with in homeseer. I can change the state in from stargate and see the change in the homeseer log however.

                    Which SG Plugin is Which?

                    "Agent J" has been using Beta 11, 11a, 11b, 11c, etc. It's much better to go by the date created/modified. Download the Zip file at the end of this post, extract the dll, right click on properties and see:

                    Tuesday, 29 August, 2006, 14:48:32

                    Hence, I always refer to this Plugin as SG 29AUG06. Avoids a lot of confusion.

                    Once again, Good Luck!

                    BTW: My IVR Board died last NOV. I started with HS 2.0 in FEB. It's been an interesting ride.

                      Works for me - but I am out of ideas. Sorry.

                          Looks like it's going to be a "ride" all right.

                            HS -> SG Relays

                            I forgot to mention that I am using Serial Splitter from Eltima Software so that I can see both transaction screens concurrently (as shown in the jpg attachment). I toggle FSGD Secure in HS and see it in both HS and SG.

                            In my configuration physical COM3 is connected to SG COM1 but Serial Splitter inputs Physical COM3 (Controlling) and outputs Virtual COM2 (Controlling) to SG and Virtual COM9 to HS. In this way, both systems "see" the transactions of the other.

                            BTW: I just got your last post right as I was about to submit this one. Frankly, I would have had a lot of trouble w/o Splitter. Pricey (ca. $100) but worth it.

                              No matter, I can't get the relays to trip. With out that I can't use this software.

                                Here is the log when I try to trip via hs then via stargate webx web session:

                                The first 6 are me trying to trip it in HS. The last two are me tripping it in webx. As you can see, HS sees the state change, but can not change the state.

                                Gotta mow the grass and get beer. This is driving me nuts.
