Advantages of Concurrent HS & SG Transaction Logs

One should never give up! Especially with the awesome power and expandability of a HS with SG for real-time operation over just about any other reasonably priced option for the Home Automater. In my case, of over 200 X-10 Modules installed, about a dozen and a half are really flaky. I replaced the most troublesome seven in the Master Wing with Z-Wave Modules but that was the limit of that mesh technology. As with any new technology aimed at the consumer market things are much less robust (i.e., much less "Powerful") than one would find in commercial applications let alone military ones. I am now replacing the remainder of my flaky devices with UPB Modules. Pricing goes something like this $X-10 << $Z-Wave < $UPB so where I can I will continue to use X-10 (via HS and ACT TI103's under control of SG. Of course, I am building up quite a supply of spare X-10 relay switches, dimmers, and multifunction controllers.

I also upgraded from HS to HSPRO and am now on Pro Build 2.1.127. The Top Management of HS is forward looking - but they are business people after all. They have invested a tremendous amount of effort to bring our Plugin from obscurity to reasonably full functionality. They deserve our support. All too many members of our community grouse about bugs and seem to demand a final fix once and for all. Well, what have they contributed (in time, effort, or cash)? In several cases, not much except very vociferous complaints. Stick with HS! Invest in Serial Splitter from Eltima GmbH (Gesellschaft mit beschrankte Haftung) of Germany or another similar software package. You will thank yourself in the future for the immeasurable help with debugging.

BTW: Problems remain with SG flags over 99 and with SG variables (depending on which version of the DLL you are using). As soon as I get a pre-release of the next Beta, I do my best to check it out from the standpoint of a consumer. In several instances, this has required a great deal of effort - but I am semi-retired and only work two days per week so I have the time. (Besides, it's fun!)

    Cheers!

BTW: Mow the grass? I live in Tucson and don't have any. Grab a beer? How about wine? It's less fattening.

Wine gives me an awful headache .

Any I went a head purchased HS. I am going to make this work, just seems something is amis on my end, I just have to find it. Would love some sort of manual point to what each item is.

For instance, what is the winevm checkbox for?

        WinEVM Check Box

Unknown! ...but seems like a feature to improve intersystem communication. I always check it.

BTW: A Plugin User's Guide? Yea? Who's going to pay for it?

Me with the fee for the plugin. Shoot if I figure this stuff out, I'll write one.

I've just started playing with the new plugin (version August 28 at 12:31) with HS2.1 and this is my experience so far:

Flags - seem to work OK. When turned on/off via HS, they show up correctly in SG. When set via LCD keypad, they show up in HS. However, when set via WebXpander or WinEVM, they do not show up in HS - if I remember correctly, this is some kind of limitation with WinEVM and the same thing happened with Glen's plugin and HS1.7.

Variables - When I increment/decrement/clear via HS, it shows up in SG. When I decrement/clear via WebXpander, it shows up in HS. When I Set in WebX, it does not show up in HS (and yes, I did refresh). But when I set via LCD keypad, it does show up in HS. Again, the failure of WebX to send variable values to HS may be a limitation of WinEVM.

SG On-board Relays - On/Off via HS works and shows up correctly in WebX and SG. On/Off via WebXpander or SG shows up in HS.

SG Relay Xpander Relays - No good. On/Off via HS does nothing to SG. On/Off via SG shows nothing in HS.

On-board Digital Inputs - HS sees them go On/Off correctly.

X-10 - On/Off is all good both ways. Haven't tried dimming.

That's as much as I've tried so far. So far, all good except for the Relay Xpander. Are we out of luck here? Or did I miss something?

Overall, the plugin is looking very good!

I deleted the line fom the JDS.ini file and saved it. I deleted the existing Security devices. Restarted HS. Reimported Security alone. It assigned housecode # again, but still missing #1. The other 23, #2 through #24, import fine.

              Tried it 3 times.

                Latest Version?

To follow up on the question above, which is really the latest version of the plugin?

The one I have in use (from the HS Updater) is 2.1.2431.14686. Created August 30, 2006 10:03:05 PM. Modified August 28, 2006 12:31:54 PM.

The one at the start of this thread is 2.1.2431.14686 (same number). Created August 29, 2006 2:48:32 PM. Modified Sptember 8 11:06:22 PM (obviously when I downloaded it).

I don't see any designation on the file info that would indicate version 11c or 11d.

Same as Mark S. here device #is still missing even if the housecode changed.

For the security devices: Make sure you have the latest build (11d I think) and then do a re-import. If you are still having trouble, you may need to delete the Security devices in HomeSeer and then Import them.

                    Charles-

I have never seen this error before. Are you running the latest version from the beginning of this thread? If you have any other information you could give me about your setup, or when or why this occurs, it would definitely help me out.
If you dig around you will find earlier versions, e.g., 11c, etc.

                      Hi Guys-

I have some updates to be posted later, but I will be using the 2.1.x number from now on.

For those with relay issues, what are you trying that does not work? Are these Relays on the motherboard, an Xpander, or an RS-485 Device? If possible, could you send me a log segment with debug enabled (Com and Function) to rj [at] homeseer.com? This would defintely help me out.

Also, to resolve a bit of nervousness as to my earlier posts, I am now only at HomeSeer part time as opposed to full time. I will be in and out during the week, but the whole plugin is still high on the priority list. It's just I might not be able to get updates, etc. as frequently.

Things I have found or am working on fixes for:
                      • Unkown phone events
                      • Security Devices
                      • Relays not being sent properly

"Agent J", I am getting this nervous feeling that you worked as a Summer Intern with HS and are now back at university. Do you offer consulting services on the side? Anyway, I really need the ability to address SG Flags > 99 without impacting the 29AUG06 Plugin (and all earlier) handling of SG Variables.

The following extract presents the SG Log followed by the HS Log:

I am using the motherboard relays and they are not being tripped by homeseer, but are being seen by homeseer when webx or stargate trips them.

Have sent you a text file of a debug log. Not sure if need more of it or not.

                            SG Relays via HS

                            Matt,

Again, this is just a workaround using flags - but it does work (for me, anyway). I've set up a flag in SG that, when set, triggers a macro. The macro trips 4 relays in SG to switch audio sources. HS can set or clear the flag, which accomplishes the relay thing in SG. Flags are great, flags are great, flags are great!....

                            Comment

                              Flags are Great?

Only if they are at 99 or below in SG's Flag Vector. Since I use Flags for controlling WAV files, I need them up to 140 & above. As for Relays in the Xpander, I continue to harp on this as well. Cheers, Whitey

                                Hi Guys-

The latest beta went into the updater last night, and I think it resolves most of the open issues. Things that were fixed:
                                • Importing Security #1
                                • Handling devices over 99 (and fixed under 99 events as well)
Please give it a try. Please note that further updates will go into the updater, so we can keep the same naming convention. (I never really liked 11d, etc. myself anyway!). The latest version is 2.1.2443, this is in the updater now.

Please note that because the plugin is now a paid plugin, this may not initialize when you first install it. If anyone receives an "Unregistered" error, send me an email and I will issue you a trial code, but the plugin should run fine by default.
