    HS version for SG Plug-in

I'm in the process of getting HS going with SG and I was wondering if the latest version (2.2.0.11) of HS is the way to go or if an earlier version would be better with the SG plug-in.

I recently upgraded to 2.2.0.11 and have not had any problems. In a few cases I find it works better with SG than 2.1 did.

Thanks for the info. I've successfully loaded it and started playing with it. I'm sure I'll be back here with more questions.

I'm trying to use Eltima's serial splitter and seem to have some problems configuring it. For those that have used it, what's the best config to use for a real COM1 port on the machine for both WinEvm and HS at the same time?

I also use the serial splitter and find it works very well for me. WinEVM does not recognize PC ports beyond 4, so I have the physical com1 configured as a virtual com2 for WinEVM and a virtual com10 for HS.

The only conflict I've run into is downloading SG schedules. If I shut down HS, then the download is never a problem, but if I try to download a new schedule with HS running the download can fail, probably because if HS sends a message to SG during the process, it garbles the download.

IC - ok thanks, that helps.

One of my problems with the serial splitter is grasping their terminology. What do they mean by "In" and "Out"? If data goes both ways, how can there be an In and an Out? I guess they are talking about In and Out of the bundle but the way they explain it isn't very clear.

So, it sounds like you are using the Many to One config, is that right? Which port do you give control to? COM2 or COM10, or does it matter?

          Thanks for the help.

            Greg,
I agree, it took a bit of fiddling to clarify the nomenclature. 'In' refers to the physical port on the computer. 'Out' points to the virtual ports. I've set it up with com2 having control, but I didn't experiment at all to see if it mattered. I just kept trying until I found a configuartion that worked.

I finally got it working by using the Many to One option with using a virtual Com3 for WinEvm and virtual Com10 for HS on the input side and real Com1 on the output side of the bundle. Works great!

Now there is another problem. I am getting a bunch of errors when HS starts up. I am using version 3.02d on the SG side. Should the HS plug-in work ok with this old version? (I tried to upgrade to the new version for the DST change but couldn't get the interface to my Caddx NX8 to work so I went back to the old version and just changed the time)

                Greg,
Glad to hear it's working...sort of. I don't have experience with that version of WinEVM, but it worked with 3.09.6. If WinEVM is working ok and the errors are in HS, then I doubt that it's the version of WinEVM that's the problem. (By the way, did you try going into Utilities/Define/Security with the new FW version? Several people reported that was necessary to reconnect to NX8e. Don't have to do anything, just confirm that CADDX is selected then click on OK.)

What are the errors you are seeing? Are they related to HS connecting to SG or are they appearing in the SG log? What happens if you ignore them? I have noticed that the latest version of HS sends quite a bit of 'stuff' to SG as it starts up. In my setup it shows up as strings of numbers in the SG log, but no errors. I typically start WinEVM first, then HS. I don't think I've tried it the other way around.

I posted the log before I saw your reply.

Yes, I did try the define security trick many times and many other similar things and it didn't work. What I actually had was partial comms between SG and Caddx. It would report zone faults but not arming, alarm etc etc.

The partial HS log file in my previous message just goes on and on and never stops. It's like its caught in a loop.

                          Greg,
You must have read my mind. You sent the log as I was asking you about the errors. Crossed 'in the mail'.

I'm not seeing errors, just lots of debug statements. Do you have any or all of the SG plugin debug logs checked? If so, what does the log look like if you uncheck all three of them?

I do see a lot of numbers such as 0008880888888888 fly by on the SG log once in a while as HS is running.

OK, I unchecked the debug options and it quieted it down a lot. Now it just keeps repeating the following:
                              5/9/2007 9:52:10 AM ~!~TRACE~!~Enter Plugin CheckInterfaces

                              5/9/2007 9:53:00 AM ~!~TRACE~!~Exit SaveDeviceState

It seems like all the debug stuff should stop eventually. If there is nothing wrong, why does it keep going?

                              Thanks for all help.
