Seems to be a minor bug. After installing the thermostat it came up as something like Z-Wave Thermostat 25. After creating a bunch of events to control the setpoint, I decided on a more friendly name: Thermostat (it's my only one so it made a lot of sense). When you rename other devices, any events they get used in also see the rename. This is not the case with the thermostat. I was wondering why my setpoints weren't changing on schedule. This was why.
