News from Sonoff, they are improving their firmware:

We are still collecting more suggestions from home automation community.

We summarized most of the issue on the Github which you have involved.

    * simplify the device set up procedure with AP mode
    * simplify to update the device firmware
    * API of "Get Device Info" should be an object instead of strings ( maybe optimized but you have the way to transformation)
    * we are creating a Dimmer, you will see it very soon, maybe next month or Dec

I will still check the code, it shouldn't throw exception in TrimNameToId. But it's gonna be hard to test

Yeah, Sonoff devices are pretty good.
They just need to simplify the initial paring procedure.

The mini Sonoff has connection in my barn 30m away from router and through a concrete wall. I also tested in my garage ca 40-50m away and through a metal roof. (my router is in a window so signal just passes one wall and glass)

alexbk66, your plugin works very well
I added another SSID to my router with sonoffDiy.
Status is changing when i switch local on the device.
If I disconnect the status is changing.

If you have VirtualBox - no reason you can't download Windows 10 image.
Also I'm doing .NET version of their 'tool' - with minimal functionality, i.e. discovery and setting WiFi.
But my 3 yo daughter get sick, we spent 6 hrs in ED today, so no ETA

Yeah, I had same suspicion, asked Sonoff - they didn't reply... I'm also working on C# command line tool - to avoid Sonoff crap

[EDIT] I think Sonoff use Py2exe to compile Python code into exe. This is knows for false detection because Py2exe is also used to compile malware - producing similar signature.

Got the devices today, not shure yet that I will use the DIY_tool.exe. Seems to contain virus.
