I do not know that there is anything missing, I am just starting to look into ESPHome and was thinking of putting together some multisensors for each room of my house. I just did not want to go through the effort of doing that only to find out that this plugin was abandoned due to lack of interest or anything like that.

An alternative way to accomplish your goals would be to use Tasmoto on the ESP8266s and the mcsMQTT plugin as the glue to HS3/4.
