HS3 not controlling linked SwitchLincs properly

    Greetings,

I set up my garage exterior light the other day (two linked SwitchLincs) and checked the box on both of them for the software to control them together. It worked perfectly, and I was very happy! This was something that my old software didn't support.

When I went to show off to my girlfriend yesterday how well it was working, it of course didn't (just my luck). I checked the settings and nothing had changed. I tried unchecking both boxes and saving the config, and then re-adding the checkbox. I even tried deleting the devices and re-adding them, and that didn't seem to work. The links are both still there on the switches, both empirically (they both control the exterior light) and via querying the links in the software. Any ideas as to why it would stop working?

On a side note, is there any way to change the default order of devices in the main device management screen? Or is that a better question for another forum? (I would have to have to delete all my devices and add them in the specific order I wish them to appear.)

if you have a pair of switches each linked to the other, and it doesn't work when controlled locally/physically, then there is a communications issue on the insteon network..something is interfering with the signal between the two. If it doesn't work when controlled from hs3, then post a detailed log snippet of the transaction, so i can see if the msgs are going out. They may be getting NAKed from the PLM.

the plugin device mgnt page & hs dev mgmt page is sortable by clicking the column headings. do not bother trying to add them in a specific order.

post a screen shot of what you are trying to do if the above does help

      Greetings Mark,

Thank you for the help. The two switches work just fine when they are controlled locally/physically, and have for the year-plus that they have been installed. I also show no failed communication to either of the devices from HomeSeer, and the number of hops is always 1. So it looks like communications is pretty good among all three components.

I generated a log file from the Insteon plug-in, but it is nearly 4 MB and I don't seem to be able to read it very well to cut out just the portion that you would want to see. What program do I use to read an HSD file? Or is there another way to generate a log for you to see?

ok, so you were controlling one switch from HS.

search the log file for the time frame when you tested the switches and just copy and paste that log section into a new post.

don't worry about readying the hsd file.

If we aren't talking the HSD file, then I am confused as to which log we are talking about. Do you want the HomeSeer log itself? I didn't see a lot of useful information in that, unless there is a way to turn up the debug level. I turned each switch on and off in HS3, and then turned the device on manually at one switch and off at the other switch.

Okay, I think I figured out how to increase the log debug level (I set it to "Detailed" in the Insteon plug-in configuration). I then turned each switch on and off via the HomeSeer app.

              the log looks fine.

did you experience the problem you initially reported in this most recent log session?

if you did, please explain what didn't work as expected

The problem did occur. The issue is that controlling each individual switch via HS3 only controls that device. If I turn on the load switch, the light turns on, and the secondary switch stays off. If I turn on the secondary switch, the load switch and light both stay off.

what plugin version are you running?

I think you said you have the 'sync linked responder devices' checked, but can you confirm this after restarting the plugin

                        the links are incomplete

recreate a link from the load switch to the secondary switch and check the 'create cross link' option and then click create link
