Cannot to Add Device or Edit Links

    Hi Mark,

I recently tried to add 2 new devices. Unfortunately, when I entered the address, the system responded in both cases that the device was not added due to a Communication Failure. That is also when I noticed that I have some Link issues with a couple of other devices. One device shows Duplicate Links and the other device includes Links to a Keypad link that is no longer a part of the system. So I tried to edit their links but the system fails every time. I tried to reset and reprogram the Link database but nothing changed.

I will post the detail log file for your review. Hopefully you will see something in the log.

    Thank you for your help

    Brian

Thank you for getting back to me... Just to confirm, Power Cycle the PLM means that I pull the unit out of the wall, wait about a minute and then press the button on the side while I plug it back into the receptacle. Is that correct??

          1. stop the plugin
          2. unplug the plm
          3, wait a minute
          4. plug the plm back in
          5. restart the plugin

do not press the set btn on the plm, that will reset the database; we dont need that right now

Mark, I power cycled the PLM and tried to delete one of the duplicate links. Only you know how to decypher the log file. Bottom line, i could not delete he link and the log file appeared to show the same results.

            What do you suggest?

Mark,.... do you think that I should repeat the Power Cycle but this time hold the button down to force the unit to do a total refresh??

if the basic power cycle didn't help, then you can do what you suggested above but you will need to run the update interface database function to reprogram the links. Or you can try the reset and reprogram function from the config page which does both for you

                  Mark

i did the power cycle as per Post #7 and then ran a Reset & Reprogram function. System ran for a few seconds and then responded that the PLM did not Reset properly.

Not sure where to go from here but I suspect that PLM is toast. What do you think?

                    try this...

                    stop the plugin

manually do a factory reset on the plm (follow the procedure in the manual). this is the process that includes holding the set btn in while plugging it back in. you need to check on the timing.

                    restart plugin

then run the update interface database routine from the config page to reprogram the plm

                    lets see how that goes

Hi.... it took some playing around but I got it..... I can add new devices again. Still could not delete errant links but by forcing the system to reprogram the device, I was able to get rid of the duplicate links.

Something still seems not quite right but I need to do some more testing before I put my finger on it.. For some reason, the System Configuration screen told me that it could not communicate with the PLM. After I shut everything down and restarted then all was well again. Hope that makes sense to you. If not then we can pick that on up later if it becomes an ongoing problem.

                      Thank you for your help.

check to see if the insteon id of the plm on the bottom matches what the plugin reports, and what is in the insteon.ini

                          Hi Mark,

wanted to thank you for your help. The PLM continued to act very erratically and when I looked at the detail log, it was constantly resetting itself. Furthermore, I still could not add any new devices. I have ordered and swapped the PLM and now everything is working as expected. Looks like that old PLM (which had been in service since 2015) was the source of the problems.
