    Worked yesterday, today stopped working

    So last night (til 8am Friday morning) everything worked fine. the lights all turned off at 15 minutes before dawn. (I work midnights)
    I got up today, went to my daughters and checked my system remotely and several Insteon devices had no statuses. actually just unknown
    So when I got home, checked and found no "OK" buit this instead:
    "WARNING: Please check the Interface and enter the Interface Port information on the Config page and restart HS"

    So I checked everything I could think of as far as hardware, Device manager is fine, USB serial on COM3 showing no errors for the 2413U.
    uninstalled and reinstalled thje port. no effect.
    Stopped and started plug-in, no effect. (several times)
    stopped and restarted HS, no effect.
    rebooted the entire server, no effect.
    copied the old config files from prior to the error over the current, no effect.

    running HS3 on Windows 10. Have not had a recent problem specific to Insteon since replacing the controller awhile back.
    I looked back through the logs from when I last knew it worked in the morning and all I can find is this

    Which is followed by these:

    So,I Generated the help file below. did my Insteon controller take a crap or what?

    I swear this thing is possessed. So I thought I had done everything I could, I was already searching eBay for a serial PLM.... (why not right?)
    decided to go through all the help steps again on troubleshooting.
    I know I had already disabled the power management, I mean this had been working for a few months since replacing a blown HUB with the 2413U.
    But what the heck, nothing else seemed to be working on getting it restored. I went through and disabled Power Management for every USB controller in the device manager. redetected devices, relaunched HS, started Insteon plug in and lo and behold.... a green "ok".

    Now did that last step actually fix it? or was it a combination of things I did? will it stay fixed?
    I think I'm still going to order another PLM (a Serial one) to have on hand next time.

      glad you got it working again.

      if things are working now, you might run a 'reset and reprogram' on the interface from the plugin config page. this will definitely let you know if there are issues with the PLM.

            and here we go again, went to turn on a light this evening and the Insteon is not found again, same errors, nothing in the log that I can find. it's just not responding.
            I stopped it, restarted it. no effect.
            I shut down HS and restarted. no effect.
            I shut down everything and rebooted the server. no effect.
            I can't disable the USB power settings again, cause I never changed them after everything started working.
            Which makes me think they were not responsible for it working again.

            The "reset and reprogram" i did when it was working had no issues, so I still think it might be the PLM..... but I won't know until I get another one and replace it.
            Unless there is something else I can look at.

              update to add, I moved the PLM to a different USB port, and it later started working.... and then about an hour or so later it stopped.

                I believe what is going on here is what we used to call the 'usb discconnect' issue. Electrical noise is coming in from the PLM and corrupting the usb connection to the server.

                fluorescent lights, washing machines, and other noisy devices can cause this. You need to find the source of this noise.

                can you tell me the fw version of the PLM? it should be on a sticker on the outside

                  well, I would hope it's not the noise coming in. I had the PLM plugged into a filter, to pretty much make it a radio only unit and was depending on the access points and other dual-band devices to put the signal into the electrical lines. that is why I was asking separately about the 2448A7 since it is radio signal only, it would basically replicate what I was doing with the 2413U.
                  There are fluorescent lights in the computer room with the PLM, but none of the problems occurred when I was down there with the lights on. It had been failing when I haven't been in the room for hours. Haven't used washing machines anytime around the fails, and they are on a different circuit completely. The computer room circuit is now and seprate fuse in the box. Unless it is coming from noise within the computer room itself, (server, switches, modem, router, etc)

                  I did open up the PLM to look for any bulged capacitors or other signs of electrical isues, and none were found.
