I have been using COM3 or COM8...that part I knew.
still can't get past the yellow warning. I enabled detailed logging, and restarted the plugin, here is the results.

have you tried a factory reset (see the manual for the procedure) on either PLM? I would start with the original one. if that helps, you can run the 'update interface' to reprogram it.

Also possible you have a bad USB port. What happens if you plug a mouse into the same USB port used for the PLM - does the mouse work?

no...i gave up. nothing suggested was working, USB port is fine....so I started swapping out Insteon devices with z-wave. things were fine doing that.
now I have another catastrophic failure of loading and lost most all my devices in HS3. so looks like I will be moving to HS4 and do a rebuild from scratch.
