    Insteon Hub X10 question

    Mark:

I have been using HS2 and your plugin with the 2413S for several years.

I just purchased the new Insteon hub and have it installed and working on my test setup versus my "live" HA setup. I am running Version 2 of your plugin and have several Insteon devices linked and working just fine.

I also have the X10 interface of the hub enabled and can control the few X10 devices I have remaining in my house (I have been migrating to Insteon for about a year now).

My question is: When my "live" HA server sends out an X10 command to one of my X10 devices, should I be able to see that command received on the "test" network using the hub? I can control the same device with the hub that the other HA server is controlling so I am pretty sure I have good communications (low noise) on my AC wiring. I just don't see the X10 commands received on my test network. Should I be able to see those commands? I read thru several threads and saw mention of polling the hub. Is there a polling enable, timer, etc for the hub interface?

I also noticed that if I look at the HS2 Setup/Interfaces menu it shows the Insteon and X10 interfaces enabled and it also shows COM14 in the com port box. On the main configuration page of your plugin, I have the correct IP/Port shown (obviously since it is working). Is that normal?

The com14 entry is a bug in hs2 that i can't fix, but i think you can ignore it as I don't read the hs com port value anymore; i use the value entered on the plugin config page.

when you start your "test" server with detailed logging, do you see any entries in the startup log related to x10 initialization?

i think if everything is working correclty, you should see x10 msgs on both environments.

the hub is automatically polled every secs for new msgs; no need to enable this

I'll do that tonight when I get home.

      Thanks for the quick response.

        Quick update.

I do see where the X10 interface is initialized during startup and there doesn't appear to be any problem.

I did a little more testing last night and I think what I am seeing now is that the X10 receiver sensitivity in the hub is not as good as other dedicated X10 transceivers. I moved the hub to another location in the house and it detected all X10 commands from there. The next step is to plug it in the same location as my "live" HS server to see how well it works there

I am hoping to replace my USB PLM and the serial X10 transceiver with the hub while making a move to connect all my interfaces on HS via Ethernet/WiFi.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Even with the Insteon hub plugged in to the same outlet as my "live" HS X10 transceiver, it is missing X10 signals on the power line. There may not be anything you can do, but I thought I would send you some data anyway.

I ran a simple test and the data is shown below. From the "live" HS x10 transceiver I sent L1 ON and L1 OFF as can be seen below.

12/3/2013 8:18:09 PM Device Control Command sent to address L1: L1 Off Dimval: 0 Data: 0
12/3/2013 8:18:05 PM Device Control Command sent to address L1: L1 On Dimval: 0 Data: 0

This is what the Insteon Hub on the "test" HS server collected with detailed logging turned on:
