Is there a "Minder" for this Plug-In?

(Note this is a duplicate of a message I posted in the HS3 Forum)

Is there a way for HS3 to check if a plug-in is "OK" and if not, deactivate it and then reactivate it?

I was doing some electrical work over the weekend which caused the equivalent of a powerfailure (my HS3 is on a UPS and keeps running but not the Insteon 2410S control module).

After powering back up I noticed the Insteon Plug-In (Mark Sandler's) was in "Fatal Error" mode as it had lost serial communications with the 2410S module. I found that simply "deactivating" and "reactivating" the plug-in restored the communications and all was fine.

Seems to me this could be automated and would avoid having to do a full system restart using the UPS plug-in. Wonder also if there are other Plug-Ins that could be restarted.

    Any thoughts?
    Regards,
    Chris

Mark Sandler has implemented 2 Insteon special triggers:
    1- Disable Interface
    2- Enable Interface

Not the perfect world, but at least you have the tools. If you want to automate this, you still need to check if the rest of the house got power back before using those: look at BLUPS plug-in for that.

      Hey thanks Claude,
I don't see the two triggers you mention ...did you really mean "triggers" or "actions"?

What I see (version 3.0.4.4), in the HS3 Events page, I'm looking at the triggers and I see a special Insteon "If Interface Stops Responding" and there's also a "If Interface Crashes".

And if you can in fact test the interface, then can you use the event "Insteon - Reset and Reprogram Interface" ?

I don't see 1- Disable Interface nor 2- Enable Interface anywhere.

      Cheers,
      Regards,
      Chris

            Chris,
There has been a lot of discussion and work on this subject: getting the plugin going again after a power failure (or a usb disconnect). here is the short of what is built in

if the plugin fails to transmit a cmd to the interface after 10 times (the default) it will go into recovery mode: recovery mode will try to reestablish communications for about 2 minutes. if this fails, the plugin will shutdown the interface/communications. The plugin is still running but no insteon msgs go in or out.

it is then up to the user to restart the plugin communications using one of the following when the conditions are better:
            - some users have script to restart the hs which will restart the plugin,
            - other users restart the entire server
            - there are also Interface actions (mentioned above) that you can trigger to restart the Interface/communcations

The plugin does not have a way to monitor power (nor will it), so its up to the user to handle these power outage conditions.

            Hope this helps.
