    X10 devices on Insteon Network

    Mark,

I run the serial plm to communicate with all my dual band Insteon device. I'm looking at adding a couple Rain8's that use X10 for commands.

My question is do you know how these would be setup in Homeseer? (I'm confused cause the rain8 plugin calls for a serial port to associate the device with, but I don't believe 2 plugins can use one serial device at the same time)

Do u have any idea how these would work either with your plugin or other plugins?

    Thanks

you are correct, two plugins can't control the same serial port.

sounds like you need a different x10 controller for these devices. not sure if you need an x10 plugin as well or if the rain8 plugin will manage the x10 controller.

Can the x10 commands be sent thru your plugin and the serial based plm? I thought these plm's could do x10.

My plugin does support x10. But if the rain8 plugin needs direct control over the serial port then this doesn't help

Do you link X10 devices just the same as you would the newer Insteon?

I'm wondering if I could link the rain8 x10 to your plugin and get a house code per each output/zone. With those house codes I could reference the house codes in the irrigation scripts or events.

I might call HS on the phone tomorrow am.

there is no x10 linking like there is with insteon. you just create x10 hs devices and then the plugin can send those x10 cmds.

enable x10 on the plugin config page
Create the hs devices from the dev mgmt page (not from the plugin pages)
