    Insteon Devices Missing

    Gurus,

Some Insteon devices are disappearing when I exit and restart HS. Those with ascii codes [1 - [10.
    • In startup I can see the 10 devices in the Insteon configuration list but they have lost their 'system' designation. Other devices are fine.
    • They do not show up in status, list start at [11 and up, [1 - [10 are missing
    • After I add and delete a new dummy Insteon device, they show up again in status.
    • I can move them into a new 'system' designation and fix HSTouch links.
    • They do not show up in the Event section as a device I can program
    • When I exit HS and restart they are gone again, only device codes [11 are visible ... go back to bullet 1.

Somehow device codes [1 - [10 are not loading properly on startup, any suggestions? I'm pulling my hair out and I don't have enough to spare. I hear these issues are corrected in HS3, but I'm still waiting for new plugins.

    Using HS 2.5.0.52, PLM 2.0.0.13

    Thanks in advance,

    Leo

is there another plugin using housecode "["?

it might be worth starting clean since you only have 10 devices.

if you are considering hs3, i would switch sooner rather than later. the migration from hs2 to hs3 can be time consuming

I have many Insteon devices, they span two ascii codes, only devices [1 - [10 disappear, devices [11 - [99 remain. Along with these devices are hundreds of lines of event programming, I really don't want to start from scratch. Migration to HS3 will be very time consuming. Any ideas how to fix this? I'd be willing to abandon [1 - [10, but when I delete and reinstall the devices they seem to reuse the codes. How can I set those aside so as not to reuse? What would cause a range of codes to be corrupt?

      Thanks again,

      Leo

        Solved!

The comment "is there another plugin using housecode "["?" helped me. I recently installed a second GlobalCache device, when I looked at the .ini file the first device code was ], though similar it is a separate code, the second device code however was [ which was apparently causing the conflict. I changed the second device code to ] and the Insteon devices now behave normally. Thanks for your support, and on Thanksgiving Day no less!

        Cheers

Insteon Devices Gone after power failure

We had a power failure today and when power was restored, my PC started as normal. However later in the day I noticed the lighting events were not triggering. Upon investigation I discovered that all of my devices were gone and the COM port field in insteon configuration was empty. I restored the COM port which got the interface communicating and cleared the error but none of the devices came back. I've tried restoring the insteon.ini file and HSdata.hsd file (both from the same backup). I also tried restoring my whole hard drive image from a backup. Tried to reset and reprogram the PLM -- all with no luck. Any help is appreciated. Running HS3 Pro Edition 3.0.0.177 (Windows). Thanks.

so the plugin can see and initialize the plm but you can't control any devices even after a reset and reprogram; is that correct?

sounds like the plm is bad (even though the plugin can see it)

you should make sure there is nothing making noise on the powerline since the outage

Mark -- Thanks for the fast reply. Once I restore the two files from backup and restart HS3 the COM port is missing so no devices show in the Inteon plug-in section (I see the error to fix the COM issue). However, the devices and events show up in HS3 but are all non-responsive since the interface isn't communicating. Once I put in the COM port the interface starts communicating but I lose the devices in HS3 and they still do not show in the plug-in. Essentially it's a blank slate. The rest of HS3 seems to work OK - IR interface, Sonos, etc. How should I check to see if the interface is fried?

                  i'm getting confused.

can you post the hs3 startup log with the insteon plugin enabled and a com port set on the plugin config page.

make sure a good insteon.ini file is in the config folder

                      ok. that looks ok.

if the insteon devices show on the dev management page but you can't control them, then run an extension cord from the plm to an outlet near your service panel and retest control.

if this doesn't work, and another 'reset and reprogram' doesn't help, then the plm is dead

you could always try another insteon sw (insteon explorer for example) just to make sure

Just tried a ne PLM, still no luck. Devices do not show in the Dev Management page and the replacement operation showed "0" devices updated:
                        The swap routine finished.

                        Devices successfully reprogrammed: 0
Devices did not need to be reprogrammed: 0
                        Devices not reprogrammed: 0
At this point I think I'm stuck reentering all my devices and events unless there is a file stored someplace that contains the information.

are you seeing your devices in the plugin? on the manage device page?

if the device are there but not on the hs dev mgmt page then try the following:

                          shutdown plugin
add RecreateDevices=1 to the [config] section of the insteon.ini

                            Background:
I upgraded to 3.0.0.181 then I noticed that I also had HSTouch and your Insteon Plug-in to update. I then updated to HSTouch 3.0.0.67 and Insteon to 3.0.5.20. Then I rebooted and found that I had no devices showing when "View Device Management" clicked.
Research showed that I only had SimpleHomeNet devices shown. All Insteon devices were gone. I soon found that the Com was blank on the Main Insteon Configuration Page. I tried a few Com numbers since I couldn't remember what it should be. I found it on COM3. I then rebooted again. Still the only devices I had was one X10, some Global variables, and one SimpleHomeNet device.
I have searched post but this is the only that seemed similar. I added the RecreateDevices=1 and went back to a previous configuration file that should have been correct. Below is a partial list of the Startup Log.

------------------------------ The above was just a very few of my 145 devices listed in my startup log shown above. I hate to consider rebuilding my database from scratch. especially considering all of the events that I have to run my home.

                            What do I do now?

you should be able to restore a previous hs database. if you have a insteon.ini from before the upgrade i would restore that at the same time and then restart hs

i don't understand why devices disappeared during the upgrade. my plugin doesn't mess with the insteon.ini during the upgrade
