    Time to complete Event

I'm not sure if this is specific to the insteon devices as that's mainly what I have to test, but is there away to adjust how long it takes the event to run?

I currently have an 8-button keypadlinc and I have one of the buttons as "All On."

I created an event in Homeseer so that when that button is pressed, it turns on all of the associated lights in the area. Right now for testing I'm just using two of those associated lights. When I press the button on the keypadlinc, I can count to 7 before the first light comes on (both on the keypadlinc and then its associated load) and then to 7 again before the next keypadlinc button light comes on, then about 4 seconds between the connected 3-way Switchlincs ramp up to full on.

    The event is simple:
If the button has its value set to On,
Then set light button 1 to On,
Then set light button 2 to On.

I also created crosslink links in the "manage devices" section for the keypadlinc for the associated keypadlinc button the 3-way switches. (There are 33 links for the keypadlinc).

Is there anyway to make it more instant?

    Insteon Plugin version: 3.0.5.10
    HS3 Pro version 3.0.0.97

    Thanks!

I would suggest this is not normal. If you don't have any defined delay for actions in the event, then these actions should fire up immediately or after a very short time (< 0.5-1 sec.).

I would enable detailed logging on the Insteon plugin and watch for retries or any strange behavior.

Mark would be better answering this since he knows the plugin logic, but here are my observations.

1- status & value are set twice for each of the 3 devices, resulting in duplicate On commands; example:
Jan-04 10:53:24 AM Insteon Setting status and value for device 28.D8.48:1. Old status:100 Old Value:100, New Status:2 New Value:100<O></O>

By any chance, do you have groups defined involving those devices? Also, if you've cross-linked the 3 devices with that KPL button, why have an HS event on top of that?

2- You most likely have GetXMLBufferInterval=1000 in your Insteon.ini. My understanding is that the plugin will poll the hub every 1 second, so given the number of interactions, delays add up. The log shows you're seeing the first light On after 4 seconds, not 7, but still a long wait time. Reducing the interval will speed up things but chew up more cycles and TCP/IP bandwidth.

the best way to get instant reaction from the kpl btn to the other devices is to create a group in the plugin and assign the kpl btn as the controller and then assign the other devices as responders. No hs event/actions required. you can add additional responders later, but you can't change the controller without deleting and recreating the group.

            OK, 2 things:

            1. When I create a new group and click "Add and Program Group", it takes me to the next page where it is programming the links and says it'll auto-refresh and not to do anything until it shows the continue button. The programming page looks like it's missing some CSS code or something as it's all displayed wrong and then it never changes to the "continue" screen. After waiting about 15 mins I went back to manage plug-ins, then click on Insteon Configuration link where I found the continue page.

            2. What am I doing? haha. I guess, what is the correct way to setup what I'm trying to do.....
            The physical setup:
8-button keypadlinc installed, load connected to living room lights
4-way (3 switches) Switchlinc Dimmer installed in kitchen
On-off modules install on various lamps
            Switchlinc Dimmer installed in Entryway

            What I want to do:
            1. Press one of the buttons on the keypadlinc labeled All On and it turns on all of the above mentioned lights.
            2. Using HSTouch, activate the All On button and have all above mentioned lights turn on
            3. Have the other buttons on the keypadlinc synced with the other various lights so if I turn the kitchen lights on using the switchlinc, the kitchen light labeled button lights up as well. (and vise-versa)

What I currently have works, but with major delays:
I created a group with the All On button as the controller and added each of the other buttons as participants. Is that the correct way?

              1. please checkout this thread regarding your css/refresh issue:
              http://board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=171567

              2. there is a sticky thread on how to use KPL btns for various scenarios.
              - you might consider creating a group that is controlled by the KPL btn. Then on the kpl device edit page, there is an "HS Control" option to 'trigger group' which control the group from HS

Ok, I think I followed the directions correctly, but I can't seem to get it to work.

When I press the button on the keypadlinc, nothing happens.

I used this thread: http://board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=151193 as a guide.

Here is what my group program looks like currently (simplified for testing)

And here's the log file when I press the "All On" button on the KeypadLinc.

if pressing the kpl btn (the controller) doesn't work, then the links didn't get written correctly. is there a link on the switchlinc that indicates its controlled by the correct kpl btn?

I think this is the link:

                    Code:
                    Insteon Device ID: 28.D7.F4
Link #10 Switch/Load is controlled by HomeSeer using Hub Group #20 Registered Group #2 'House Living Room All On' - On Level 100%, Ramp Rate .1 Sec.

I think you're asking if the SwitchLinc Dimmer works by itself, correct? It does, I can toggle it on and off through HS Device page and by physically pressing the SwtichLinc.

not exactly. when you create an insteon group, the plugin creates a hs device to control the group. please test this group device on/off

Gotcha! Found that and tested it, it was working. I'm not sure what happened but I played with the kpl button again and it was activating the switchlinc now, so I updated the group to include the 4-way switchs that had the load connected and so far that part works.

So with that working I added the load from the kpl to the group. It works from the hs device group, but not from the physical kpl button. Getting closer!

if you want to control the kpl load from another btn other than the on/off, you need to manually connect that btn to the On btn (its not a link). see the kpl manual for this.
