HS2 Motion Sensor Battery Level - Fast OFF

Okay this one is strange, and I cannot seem to find a cause. Seems like once a day, I am finding the following line in the HS2 HomeSeer.LOG.

11/3/2015 8:33:40 AM ~!~Insteon~!~Received #10 (Garage Motion Sensor - Battery Level) Go OFF Fast

Most days this seems to occur around 8:30AM. However, I have also found it a few other times on other days.

This is the ONLY entry at all associated with device #10 which is the battery level of one of my Insteon Motion Sensors. I have 6 of the sensors in total, and none of the other 5 seem to have this issue.

The problem is that after this is received, the HomeSeer device loses its value, (it goes to 0) which has let to false low battery reports - until the value is refreshed.

I currently have the poll settings value for all motions sensors set to 10, so it will refresh the battery level value after the 10th occupancy trigger.

I have looked at all links and cannot find any indication that a link is improperly assigned to any other Insteon device. I have also completely deleted the Motion Sensor, and re-added it after performing a factory reset on the sensor device. The behavior promptly came back the next day.

I've turned on Insteon Plugin debug logging so I may have more in a day or so when this happens again.

I started wondering if maybe this was a Dusk/Dawn device that had somehow gotten "cross-wired" with the battery level. But the Dusk/Dawn device for this motion sensor actually continues to work properly - it goes on at dark and off at dawn.

Lastly, I have scoured my scripts and events to see if I could find any reference to this device or to the Insteon values, and I cannot find any reference.

Anyone seen this odd behavior before? Or anything else I should look for?

Yah, that doesn't surprise me. fw 44 seems to have several problems.

I'll report this to SH. If you can return it, it might be worth it. Problem is you will need to buy another one from someone other than SH. SH always loads the latest fw before shipping devices.

Okay, after further investigating, this appears to be some type of heartbeat activity. If I remove the battery and then reinstall, I can effectively coax the sensor to send the Go OFF Fast as part of its initial activity. From that point, it seems the Go OFF Fast will repeat approximately 24 hours later. I know that my water leak sensors have a heartbeat device that sends a pulse daily. Maybe this is something in the new firmware?

Detailed log below. Now that I know I can trigger this on command, I'm happy to help investigate further

Sounds like sending an Off Fast is a creative way of using the existing protocol to send a heartbeat every 24 hours since the device never otherwise sends a Fast Off. This way you can set up an event that acts on the heartbeat (or lack thereof to warn you that the battery may be dead).

Yes, i'll need to account for these new msgs in the plugin

Sh has been adding a heartbeat msg to their battery operated devices lately

I just need to get the specs from them so I'm sure of what i'm interrupting

I'll have to add a 5th device to these new motions sensors to capture the heartbeat signal.

Any progress with this? Having the same problem (motion sensor battery value keeps changing to Off).

I'm working on a solution based on the heartbeat info i have from other RF devices.

                          are you still running HS2?
