    Button Groups using Combine

    Mark,

I'm trying to combine buttons A & B to create some 7 button KPLs. I'm using the combine 1 group on both buttons. It seems to partially work in that if click button A will activate both A & B, but clicking B only activates/deactivates itself. I've tried a couple of your PI versions e.g. 3.0.5.51 and 3.0.5.20. Both experience the same problem.

This did work in the past as I had a 7 button prototype working perfectly for months using your plug-in; most likely using an older version of your PI. Unfortunately I thought maybe it was related to a firmware level of my other KPL, so I reset the working KPL and tried to reprogram it. Same issue.

If I combine other buttons such as C & D, E & F, etc. they work fine. It's just when I combine button A with something else.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards

    Richard

Yep, I can't get that working perfectly right on my two newest Keypadlincs either. On the old one (that had worked before), try linking the B button to the A button, and the A button to the B button, but do this on the switch itself, not through the plug-in.

        Mark,

I've tried this on firmware level .43, .44 and .45. I do have some .41 devices that I have not tried it on.

I did manage to figure out how to manually link buttons A & B last night (what goegr mentions), and at least that part works fine. I'm actually able to then 'Read Device Links and Settings' and the Combine 1 shows up correctly.

This brings up another issue (this is going to be a bit long so please bear with me) that I didn't see with my original configuration since I've expanded my use case a bit. My new use case is a KPL controlling an PlugIn Module Dimmer (or an outletlinc dimmer). In order to make everything properly work, I need to crosslink both button A & B to the PlugIn Module or Outletlinc. If I crosslink only button A, and someone presses the B side of the KPL, both A&B lights up, but the PlugIn Module won't turn on, since it actually sends a B ON signal, and B isn't linked with anything. Again, the fix is to crosslink both buttons to the PlugIn module.

This works great up until you start trying using the actual PlugIn Module to turn on the load or set dim levels. Now that normally shouldn't be the problem since nobody is actually physically going to do that, but I use that device in HS Touch. And when I try to Dim or Toggle the device, I get both very delayed reactions - upwards of 5+ seconds. I also get a lot of ghosting - the device randomly turning on and off for a period of time. I think it has something to do with the delays in the sync linked responder devices functionality.

Now, if I uncrosslink button B, it begin to works as expected in HS Touch and with very fast response times but unfortunately I lose the ability of button B to control the load - which defeats my use case. If I keep both A&B crosslinked to the load, then use button A as target for the elements in HS Touch, then it does work, but with a slow response, If I use button B, it doesn't work. I assume that's because HS doesn't see button B as a dimmer device so it's not properly syncing. BTW the KPL is a dimmer variety. While using the A button technically works albeit much slower response, I don't think this is the proper way since it seems to me that it's very dependent button also being recognized as a dimming device. I think it always best practice to control the actual load, and let the corresponding non-load devices respond at their leisure.

Does anyone have any idea how I can create my 7 button KPL, and make it work properly in HS Touch using sliders for dim levels?

I also have an ISY (with Bob's Plug-In) that I managed to get this almost working. Though the issue with that is I'm using scenes and thus the slider element in HS Touch won't work since scenes do not support specific dim levels. I'm stuck with dim/brighten buttons only and I need to have the slider functionality.

        Thanks again

        Richard

          Mark,

This is a follow up about my issue with the ghosting problem I was referring to in my previous message. I have two kpl's that I've configured in a 7 button configuration. I've linked the combined buttons (A&B) on each KPL to the other KPL. It's working perfectly if just using the KPL buttons.

The problem is when I trigger one of the button's using homeseer. What I get is 10+ minutes of seeing 'Sending sync command to linked responder device'. It looks like the syncing routine is caught in a loop. I've included a snippet of the log below:

please give this version a try, and report back.

i tested with two 6 btn KPLs where a & b were combined, and A was cross linked to A, and B was cross linked to B. there were no links from A to B or B to A

                Mark,

Looks like this is working. It's no longer hanging and causing 10 minutes of resync attempts. Thank You. Still have a weird issue with these KPL's but it seems like it's related to a poor communications that I need to sort out.

                Thanks again.

Edit: Spoke too soon, still seeing a lot of messages in the log after making an adjustment. Seems like at least 2+ minutes of messages trying to sync the KPL. Therefore I don't think it's working still, but as I mentioned before I need investigate a communication issue with the KPL.

It might not be a comms loss. When I see loops the loss counter counts up but it is not a loss. It could still be a loop

Therefore I don't think it's working still, but as I mentioned before I need investigate a communication issue with the KPL.

are you using the same setup as before? if not, what did you change, so i can setup & test

Same setup. Two 7 button KPL. I've done the manual linking of button A to B and B to A to create the combined button '7' on each of the KPLs. Then I've cross linked, using your plugin, buttons A&B between both the KPL's (A1-A2, A1-B2, B1-A2,B1-B2).

did you find the a to b and b to a links are required when operating the switches manually? they may be what are causing the looping

                          Mark,

I'll need to verify this again, but I do recall if I don't crosslink A&B on the KPL then they won't act as a single button. If I press the A side of the combined button, only the A side light up/turn off.

yah, the a-b links are necessary. I'll add them to my test env and see what i can do.

i test the 7 btn setup with all the links we discussed and the got the expected results. I will say, the plugin generated a lot of 'sync' transactions/message but it only lasts for about 10 secs.

please post you log of the transaction, i'm curious if we can determine the looping you are seeing
