It appears Tasmota (ESP8266) has a KNX implementation. Something like a $5 Wemo Mini D1 and free Tasmota firmware should provide what you desire https://github.com/arendst/Tasmota/wiki/KNX-features

Yes, the Tasmota device is a client just as HS is a client. HS likely will have multiple end points while Tasmota device will typically have one or just a few. For somebody who uses KNX the point to point communication is attractive so nice to know that low cost ESP8266 devices can be added to the KNX network.
The second point of the Tasmota link is that it also provides reference to a KNX router that is based only on software. This means that one should be able to setup a KNX network with no additional hardware investment other than ESP8266 devices from the junk box. Its should also mean that the gateway I linked to earlier should be able to be used to put HS on the KNX network with no additional plugin development needed. I'll give it a try tomorrow to see if my hypothesis holds water.

I did confirm my hypothesis is correct and was able to have the ESP8266 update temperature and relay position via KNX protocol that was routed by the KNX broker to mcsMQTT. I setup a thread at https://forums.homeseer.com/forum/li...85-knx-support to continue the discussion of using mcsMQTT for the KNX integration with HS.

For others who like things just "plug-n-play" I'm working with KNX distributor in Australia on proper implementation of KNX protocol using .NET libraries.

That is also fine to offer multiple ways to provide the integration. You are providing a picture that is not accurate. Flashing is not needed for a user of the KNX system. Flashing is only needed if you want to cheaply add an ESP8266 to a KNX network or, as in my case, I do not have any KNX clients and want to obtain one for testing purposes. No MQTT brokers need to be setup. All that is happening is that the infrastructure developed for mcsMQTT is being applied to the KNX network. Yes, .NET libraries that have many hours of field experience will be used.
