I also see "GetPluginCpuUse Process Handle lost on try 1 for init". This implies to me that there is a file in the HS root folder that starts with HS and ends with .exe that is being interpreted as something like HSPI_init.exe. Is there anything in this folder that fits this description? Can you provide a screenshot of your HS interfaces page where it lists all the plugins? At least it seems this report should not be causing the broker issues.

It would be preferred to zip mcsMQTT Debug.txt and upload the zip file rather than pasting a segment.

One thing at a time? I changed the broker IP back to blank, as requested. I restarted the plug-in with General Debug enabled.

A major difference this time is that I can (for the first time in days) now control my tasmota devices from the HS3 Device Management page! I've been checking this issue almost every time you had me do something.

Please understand that I have never been very good at doing things with Linux. It has been a big deal for me just to get the files you send me and stuff them in the locations you specify. I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to send you zipped Debug.txt files, but I need to do some research on how to do that. For now, here is the latest file excerpt in a pasted format:

I also see "GetPluginCpuUse Process Handle lost on try 1 for init". This implies to me that there is a file in the HS root folder that starts with HS and ends with .exe that is being interpreted as something like HSPI_init.exe. Is there anything in this folder that fits this description? Can you provide a screenshot of your HS interfaces page where it lists all the plugins? At least it seems this report should not be causing the broker issues.

When we started this journey, Linux was reporting that port 1883 was in use. The debug now lists all ports and 1883 is not included in the list. There was something in the debug sequences the last day that shutdown whatever was using 1883. My best guess is that a mcsMQTT instance that did not shutdown, or at least the internal broker thread remained running. It would be a computer restart that would clear up this case.

Now that normal communications with Tasmota exists we are back to posts #1 and #2 of this thread. I still want to pursue the error in the log about GetPluginCpuUse. I need some time to insert the debug that can isolate it. The file list and screenshsot look normal so it is not an obvious situation. Hopefully you will be able to recreate the original issue with debug data that is now being collected.

Linux is also a struggle for me. My primary tools are WINSCP, Putty and Google. It is better after a few years, but still nothing I could do intuitively.

OK, at the moment, HS3 can still control the tasmota devices. However:

The mcsMQTT Associations page is currently essentially useless. I can punch buttons and select filter options, but no matter what I do, the associations display remains stuck on an MQTT filtered list I brought up a while back.
The Associations tab is suddenly displaying a page having a horizontal width almost twice as large (for no good reason) as what will fit on my screen. This is a new symptom, and it does not affect the other mcsMQTT tab displays.

I'd call complaint #2 minor, but #1 major. I have tried plug-in restarts -- no help.

Post #35 item 1 problem just went away. I may have discovered what caused it.

I was leaving the mcsMQTT Associations tab open in a Chrome browser window from one plug-in restart to the next. When I closed the browser tab, then opened a new tab to the mcsMQTT Associations tab, it started working. There may be a lesson here. If so, I'm not sure what it is.

mcsMQTT maintains a dictionary of browser pages that are open. This dictionary does not persist plugin restarts. When a browser is connected to mcsMQTT page there will be a heartbeat back and forth and mcsMQTT will also update Association table payloads every ten seconds. After about 15 minutes or so and no user input has been provided by the browser then mcsMQTT deletes the record of the browser connection. From this point onward any user action on the browser page will not get back to mcsMQTT. It will look like changes are being acted upon such as going from tab to tab, but all these are local to the browser. The connection can be reestablished with a refresh of the page on the browser. I do find it annoying to leave and come back and need to refresh the page. I may just eliminate the timeout and the CPU continue with the updates forever. I do not understand the relationship between another window being open and being locked out in a second browser.

The width of the association table is dynamic based upon the length of the payload data. I never really tried to force a static width.

I believe I ran down the CPU user reporting. I also removed the workarounds and some of the debug code that was added yesterday. The attached is unzipped into subfolder /bin/mcsMQTT. There are no other user changes. At some time you can look at the debug to confirm the "GetPluginCpuUse Process Handle ..." messages no longer appear.

I have installed the two files you supplied in post #37. So far, everything seems to be working OK.

After a minute or two, I grabbed the debug file and looked for "GetPluginCpuUse Process Handle ...". I didn't find it. I'll check from time to time in the future.

I understand now why the window width changed. Personally, I'd prefer wraparound in your table cells, but that's a nit.

I rewrote my red light test events to be a little more informative. Test events run every 10 minutes. They have been running a couple of hours; no failures so far. In post #2 of my "Funky WAIT" thread, I reported that my red light test event was reporting failure every time the test ran. Now, it is not reporting failure at all (at least, so far). Did you fix something, or did all of those plug-in updates accidentally produce something fortuitous?

Your explanation makes a lot of sense, but I had no way (I think) of knowing what was going on. I'm wondering if this might be feasible: Whenever you are about to give up connection to a browser window because of 15 minutes of no activity, you might write a warning in big letters on the browser page that it has gone inactive, and that the user must perform a page refresh to regain connectivity. Same thing if mcsMQTT is shutting down. If connection is lost because mcsMQTT is being restarted, would the restart be able to find the abandoned page and connect to it? If not, then perhaps the orphaned page could be closed on the browser as part of the mcsMQTT shutdown process.

I am not aware of a means for a server (HS/mcsMQTT) to know what browsers in the world have had established a prior connection. I can see how it should be feasible to provide feedback on a connected page that the page is disconnecting and a user action is needed if a continued/new connection is desired.

The only thing I have done with the updates in the last day have been related to increasing the amount of debug information except the change I made to advance to 5.2.110.5 to fix the CPU handle issue. This issue is totally unrelated to the communications between Tasmota and HS.

In post #39 I indicated I made no changes to fix the issue in the recent builds. There were many changes made since the
5.20.1.3 plugin version that could overcome the original problem being investigated.

(Things are OK when the conditions are not met, it's a failure if the event runs.)

Having restarted mcsMQTT, I am for now able to talk with all my tasmota devices. However, I consider the fact that communication stopped spontaneously a few hours ago is a critical failure. I don't think I was doing anything at all with HS or my devices at the time.

The problem is shown by the following which was a new addition to the debug output. In essence you have an IPV6 interface that is using 1883. For local things IPV4 is what that is expected. I suspect you do not know how IPV6 became enabled so in the future you should be sensitive to it for other plugins that may have issues with establishing a connection.

Update attached to only look for IPV4 addresses when seeing if 1883 is being used. I am not certain if the plugin can claim 1883 if an IPV6 is already using it. We will learn together. If it cannot then the next step is to see how IPV6 can be disabled globally or selectively.

I just now installed your post #42 files and restarted mcsMQTT. For now, everything is OK. The red light test events are reporting properly. I'll let them run overnight, then report status tomorrow.

Michael McSharry, some good news! I have been running mcsMQTT without any known failure since installation of the change you gave me on 12/31/21. I have had a few restarts for one reason or another, but it was always for unrelated reasons.

So, I consider the issues raised by this thread to be resolved. The fix you supplied has come to me in bits and pieces. I'm in no rush, but I'm hoping that, when you find the time, you'll release to the HS Updater a version that includes all the changes you gave me.

My plan is to submit to updater after I get good feedback on the Rheem EcoNet integration. I am glad that the issue of IPV6 coming into play was the core problem.
