    X10 Device Code change??

Yesterday I changed the X10 House/Unit code on my attic water pump from B9 to D4 using the device page of Jon00 Legacy utility. After my morning HS4 restart I had the following error in my log.

May-31 12:03:44 AM X10 INFO Issue detected and resolved in InitIO(): device [Hot Water Pump] with an X10 address of B9 has a Code value of 'D4'. This is invalid as it does not match the stored X10 address for this device. While this is not an error it can have a negative effect on plugin operation. The device 'Code' field in HS has been changed from 'D4' to 'B9'.

Sure enough the code was in fact changed. Obviously, since I had also change the code on the module, reversing the change back to B9 was NOT a good thing. Anyone seen this before? Is there a process that is required to change X10 codes in HS4 that is not so intuitive? Where/how do I change the "stored X10 address" for this device.

    Thanks
    Gary

I wouldn't recommend changing X10 codes other than on the device itself with the new plugin.

Kbevo I added a check for mismatched X10 codes at plugin startup some time ago; glad to see its working! When you want to change the X10 address for an existing X10 device you must edit the HS4 device, select the "X10" tab then select "Manage" on that page, change the address or Device Type on the X10 plugin page and click DONE to save.

As you discovered, changing the HS device "Code" or "Address" field using the HS legacy pages (ie; Jon00's plugin) will not change the address in the X10 plugin until the plugin is restarted.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Yeah, the second time through, I did as you directed. Has been holding fine. So, if I understand right you are saying you can use the HS legacy pages (ie; Jon00's plugin) to change the code but you need to be sure to (manually) restart the Plugin afterwards? An HS4 restart does not do the same thing?

        Thanks

Kbevo Sorry, no. You cannot use the legacy pages to change the address, you MUST use the X10 tab to make address changes! When restarted, the X10 plugin will revert the "code/address" entry to match what the plugin has stored internally. Have a look at the log entry you originally posted:

As you can see the plugin changed it back to B9.

Okay, got it. Thanks much. I greatly appreciate all your X10 support, etc. I don't see how X10 could exist without it. 😉

One other question, that may be related to the reason that I changed the water pump code from B9 to D4 in the first place. in your "Creating new X10 devices in HS4" post that Rupp referenced above you discussed creating new HS4 X10 devices. A few months ago I converted from HS3 to HS4 and recently have been having some "irregular" X10 happenings. In that post, you are talking strictly about new devices in HS4 and not suggesting that those that came over from HS3 need to be recreated, right?

            Thanks

Kbevo Thanks for your kind words; you're welcome.

To date no one has mentioned issues migrating X10 devices from HS3 to HS4.

The difference in creating X10 devices under HS4 is due to differences between the HS3 and HS4 user interfaces. In HS3 you can create a new virtual device and the X10 tab will be shown so you can enter the X10 address & module type. In HS4 the X10 tab does not appear for a new virtual device and you must create new X10 devices from the menu: Plugins / X10 / Create New X10 Device. Once you have done this the X10 tab will be visible when editing the new virtual device and you use that to make changes. Please forget about using "legacy pages" for anything X10.

If you feel that strange X10 things are happening, please enable Debug Mode on the Plugins / X10 / Config page and there will be a lot of plugin info written to the HS log that you can share.
              Best regards,

Thanks again Mike. I appreciate your time and guidance in this matter.

After years of working (almost) flawlessly I have had some X10 gremlins creep into my X10 network. Some I have researched and found a reasonable cause, others not so much. Right now, I am working with the assumption that X10 noise has been introduced onto certain circuits. Such was the case with my hot water pump in the attic. This morning I discovered it was not coming on at the prescribed time. I checked the noise level and it was extremely high so I started trying to find the culprit. Turns out, that the lights in my garage, which (apparently) shares the attic circuit, was creating the excessive noise and preventing the X10 appliance module in the attic to turn on/off. A couple weeks ago, I decided to convert my florescent lights in the garage to led, eliminating the ballast. That is apparently the change that did the deed. I have a number of X10 filters deployed on devices that create noise but I am at a loss as to how to filter a light circuit, so I converted the hot water pump over to Z-Wave. On to the next gremlin.
