    HSTV import error messages

My HSTV 3.0 has been working without too much trouble since I upgraded. However, sometime in December something started to go haywire and now that I've fixed some of the other issues I've had of late I'm trying to pin this one down and am stuck.

The "insert into tvimport (channelID, etc...)
is throwing an error "Error action query: Invalid argument"

The insert into line appears truncated in my log, it appears to be cutting off at "pr" immediately following the director field. Is this something you've seen before or know how to fix?

If you look in the actual log file it should have the whole Insert statement. If you can get that then I'll take a look and try to figure out which value is causing the error.

Is HSTV 3 the first version you have used or did you upgrade from an older version?

I copied the query you pasted and ran it in my access and it ran without error so I am trying to narrow down where to look to try to figure out why you are getting an error.

Yes, I upgraded from an earlier version soon after you poste the new version. It then worked until sometime in December and now it fails daily I believe.

I was also able to import that row from within access with no problem. My tvimport table was empty and now contains this one row.

Jeff, I am having the same problem. It stopped working about 2 weeks ago. I noticed that when it downloads the data it is saying that it is going into the listings folder but there are no xml files per day. Also, the ddmessages.xml file gives me this error:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Also, when I check the database there is no imported data for the last 2 weeks. I don't know why this is happening. Any suggestions?

              Thanks,
              Steve

Since 2 of you are just starting to have a problem and had been fine working before I'm not sure of anything that would have changed.

I would say check the xmltv site to see if there is a newer version.

Check at the schedules direct site to make sure your profile is still set correctly.

Restart HomeSeer, perhaps something messed up the database connection between HSTV and hstv.mdb. Restarting HS would also restart HSTV and fix the connection if that is the problem.

One other thing what is the size of your Access db? If its over 1 GB then you need to run the Compact and Repair option in Access.

It says that it is putting the xml file into the proper area but if I open up that folder (Listings), there is nothing in there just the hstv icon and the xmltv.dtd file. What would all of a sudden make this happen. The reason why I did not notice this earlier was because I had 10 days of programing in advance and was also on vacation.

The hstv.mdb file was big, I think over a gig, so I did what you said and compacted and repaired it. I also deleted all the old data in it. Still won't put any xml files in Listings folder.

The other error message I get was in the ddmessages.xml file. This was in this file:

                    <html><head><title>Apache Tomcat/5.5.17 - Error report</title><style><!--H1 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:22px;} H2 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:16px;} H3 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:14px;} BODY {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:black;background-color:white;} B {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;} P {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;background:white;color:black;font-size:12px;}A {color : black;}A.name {color : black;}HR {color : #525D76;}--></style> </head><body><h1>HTTP Status 401 - </h1><HR size="1" noshade="noshade"><p><b>type</b> Status report</p><p><b>message</b> <u></u></p><p><b>description</b> <u>This request requires HTTP authentication ().</u></p><HR size="1" noshade="noshade"><h3>Apache Tomcat/5.5.17</h3></body></html>

                    Don't know what this means.

I hope you can help. I love this program.

                    Thanks,
                    Steve

On a positive note, I think I've tracked down the cause of my system crashes.
HSTV was running in the middle of the night and so. it seems, was my Kaskersky Antivirus scan. I've moved the HSTV event to 10:00AM when all but a couple of days per week, no-one is home anyway and even then not much goes on as far as motion sensor activity.
Since realizing this, I've had three days of no crashes. I plan to move the Kaspersky activity to run after HSTV during the night.

Anyway. I still have a couple of problems. I've created a single event to run HSTV update functions sequentially and this works OK. There are a couple of error messages however:

1/20/2008 10:00:00 AM - Info - Event Trigger "HSTV Download and Import Listings"

Lines three and seven from this log extract show the error which show up daily. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the final listing however.
In addition, old XML files aren't being deleted. This has been a problem from the start and I usually just periodically delete the files manually.

A bit of advice for those experencing sudden onset of database problems. Keep a copy of the empty HSTV database in a safe place. I've had to use this a couple of times when errors started popping up during import. I suppose the database had been corrupted when my sys rebooted. You can use Access to delete all records from an existing copy and then compact and save the file for future use.

First thing take a look at the database. If it is over a gig you need to close HomeSeer, open Access and do a Repair/Compact on the database.

That usually fixes the odd errors that just start happening with no changes.
Also if you are getting tons of entries in the log, check and see what setting you have the debug info set to. It's on the HSTV General Options page. If you have it set to high, it will fill your log.

The Repair/Compact worked!! The DB was over 2gigs now is 900kb! So going forward is this something that will need to be done on a regular basis? Thanks Jeff!!

Yeah, it will need to be done as it starts getting too big.

Someone posted a script that will do it automatically whenever you restart HS.
I tried to build it into HSTV but the database locks when its in use and the compact fails.
