Cannot view listings

OK I've been plugging away at this for hours now, and I cannot figure it out... for me the instructions are totally ambiguous.

The download from ZAP (or whatever it is called now) is fine and I have data.

When I click on TV listings I get this error:
This user has not been given permission to any show ratings. The listings can not be displayed until an admin assigns allowed ratings for default

Or this error:

All of your ratings are set to be hidden. Please go to the Data Ratings page and set the dropdowns to No under the column Hide. You must have some ratings not hidden to be able to set permissions for users.


and my personal favorite:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object in the log when I click on ch selector... or one of them anyway... the other one that appears sometimes seems OK.

I have absolutely no idea where the admin assigns ratings....
When I click on HSTV, DATA, RATINGS everything is set to NOT hide.
I am logged in as default and I have updated the default permissions to allow viewing....

I have absolutely no idea what I did, but I now have succeeded in setting the proper permissions (or so it appears)

Now when I get my listings, the grid is messed up. The first few channels are listed like 5 times, and the shows only show on the first time slot...

I've tried a reimport, etc... any other suggestions?

OK... I think I am doing a soliloquy... but I'll continue..

It seems that there is an issue when there are 2 channels that carry the same channel designation, such as wfsb 3 and wfsbdt 3.

With both enabled the grid goes wonky. With only 1 enabled everything is fine.

Next question I hope I wont have to answer myself...

Once you turn on VR, where are the actual events created?

I've activated, but I dont see any evernt that would respond to a voice command... (and no commands to the HSTV work)

Too late... got it.

Even though the VR setup for a user is already there, you have to click on save.

Then I had to manually enable the strings event.

I'm sooo close now..
I think this is the last issue I have. VR by channel name.
I've assigned the nick properlym but there is no response to the name.
(Number works fine)

I see this error in the log:
12/13/2008 2:04:36 PM - HSTV - Error VR Install: Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid.

I assume it is related...

Anyone?

look in the hstv help files an how to setup the (vr install)

I'll look again...

All other VR functions work just fine.. it is only the event that uses channel name.

look in the (channel editor) for nickname an fill in the names of your tv name in your area or city.

I did that this morning...
The issue is whenever I try to save the VR commands screen with HSTV VR Whats on channel name enabled, I get the error:

12/13/2008 3:17:19 PM - HSTV - Error VR Install: Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid.

So I'm reasonably sure that the error is the reason that I cannot use that particular VR function.

Any suggestions?

(BTW I get that error even with no nicknames added)

I also don't see the old VR capability of asking "When is The Office on next"

sorry, i'am not home right now so i can show you some snapshot of my setting, let me ask,is your homseeer setup new,because when i first setup hstv a while back i have alot of problem with it, the same one's you are having now,then hs 2.3 was out.after upgrade the computer,format hd,install windows an homeseer an all the plugin i use, hstv took 25 min to setup.it work great now.os if your hs setup old an has lot update an patch on it,think of a clean setup.
