Nice one! I'm pretty sure that's it.

I can send some of my artwork if you want, but I'd put money on the Cache folder being a mess, lots of people complained about artwork not showing after iOS8. I think I'll delete it, let it rebuild, and switch fetch_covers to TRUE, to see what happens. Since iOS8 I can't even switch my Apple TV on with my phone anymore, my artwork hasn't shown correct in the Remote app, the list goes on...

I'll let you know how it goes.

    Cheers

    I think so.
Ill give this new one a spin tonight, check it with my AV events, and let you know what happens!

at least the plugin doesn't crash anymore or make HS3 unresponsive, right?

    Please try version 3.0.0.17
Add the following to your iTunesDAAP.ini in the [GENERAL] section
    Code:
    fetch_covers=False
    then restart the plugin

If we confirm the problem is due to fetching the cover art, could you send me some of the covers from your iTunes library, I would like to be able to replicate this problem.

    Hmmmm
Updated iTunes last night - new one just out.
    Updated HS to .163 also.
The iTunes state device seems a little better, but that could be because its had a re-boot. Ill mess around with it thru the day.

    Cheers

    Hi Spud,

I have noticed that when Pressing play from the iTunes DAAP Status device it starts to play OK, then pressing pause will pause iTunes but the device still stays on "Playing". Then if I press Next it changes and the state is then blank? Seems difficult to get it to display Pause in the status device, although iTunes does pause and play.
Time-outs are still occurring but I haven't had any bad lock-ups yet and no "object reference not set to an instance of an object" errors - which is good.
I will try running my AV events later tonight when the coast is clear, and let you know.

    Cheers

    Hi Spud,
It's going ok, I'll get more time later tonight to give my findings. Need to check a few things first.
Mmmmmm maybe so with the covers, you could try a disable to see. I noticed it takes upto 4 secs to say it's updated in the log sometimes. I don't use anything special though.
It's certainly different (maybe better, can't tell yet!!), back shortly.
    Cheers

    Hey Skinnez,

How is it going with this new version?

I'm more and more convinced that your problem has something to do with downloading covers from iTunes... Are you using something particular related to that ?

I could add a setting to disable the downloads of covers, to confirm that this is the problem.

as you can see in the logs all the commands sent between 21:52:15 and 21:53:16 time out, this means iTunes is unresponsive or busy doing something else, so you need to find why:

maybe you are sending too many commands at once? maybe another program is sending some other commands to iTunes? Try to simplify your event as much as possible.

one thing I noticed in this log is that when it starts working again the log says "Cover Updated" which means the plugin has finished downloading a cover from iTunes. Can you check if that always happen, i.e after the timeout errors you always have a "Cover updated" message, and then it start working again.

    Thanks Spud, much appreciated.
I managed to sort the other remote iTunes instance and got it paired - turned out to be something in the firewall on the HS3 VM - so thats off now and out of the equation.
I'll try the attached, and hopefully get some results back to you shortly.

    Cheers

    Hey Skinnez,

I tested the iTunes DAAP plugin a lot today, I found some problems and fixed them but I'm not sure if this is exactly the problems you experienced.
I added timeouts to the commands sent to iTunes so that if one command timeout it does not stop the other ones from being sent and does not crash the plugin, I added some logs and generally hardened the code.

    Please test version 3.0.0.16 attached.
Before you start the plugin please tick the developer mode checkbox, you will then see the plugin logs in a console and there may be some additional information which are not in the HS logs.

    Thanks

I've been trying to pair a remote instance of itunes. When I try to put the 4 digit code into itunes it just says it's incorrect and won't pair, I've taken the old ip out of your ini file. Anything else I need to do??
yes, removing the old ip should be enough, alternatively you can just delete or rename the ini file and then start the plugin, it will be automatically recreated when needed.
what exact error do you see and where? can you post a screenshot?

It did it first thing this morning. I think it needs to be left alone for a few hours and it will do it straight away.
So I have started iTunes with my RF remote and then attempted to change the volume.
It starts iTunes OK and I think one or two volume changes happen then it locks up. I keep issuing volume/track change/ stop iTunes from the RF remote, and nothing happens.
I then open up the iPhone iTunes Remote app and navigate to the "now playing screen". As soon as this screen pops up on my phone ALL the commands have queued somewhere and fire all at once.

It did it last night also, but after refreshing it with the iPhone iTunes remote app and all the queued commands gone it then works OK and no matter what I did it wouldn't happen again. So I left it and tried again this morning, the log from this morning is below.

I have disabled the firewall again on my HS3 VM but it makes no difference.

I hope you can sort it.

I've been trying to pair a remote instance of itunes. When I try to put the 4 digit code into itunes it just says it's incorrect and won't pair, I've taken the old ip out of your ini file. Anything else I need to do??
    Cheers

FYI im on the latest PI version again.
I'll try and get the problem with debug logs on and post it.
I agree that it somehow hangs and no commands can be sent to iTunes from the PI, be it from my RF remote / Hs event. (But the play recent playlist event I have will work even when in this state, weird?)
Are you trying this out on win 8.1?
One thing I will try today is to put iTunes on a different VM to HS as it is now, and see if it helps. I'll try 8.1 and win 7 I think.

The issue is intermittent, and usually happens every time iTunes is controlled from an event within say 5 mins, sometimes longer, but sending more commands to iTunes speeds it up.
    Cheers
    J
