    Detecting motion and triggering event

    Hi,

I am looking to trigger an event when motion is detected either when the alarm is Armed or Disarmed.

I noticed that in the events there is an option "Vista Alarm Message Trigger" and then a section ti enter the message.

In the HS3 log I don't see any motion detected even though I can see the motion detected blinking red when I am in front of it.

I am looking to install another panel to detect motion (that's why I asked if I needed another AD2USB on another thread).

I even enabled debugging to see if I could the motion detected but couldn't.

    Am I missing something,

    Thanks
    Chris

as i recall the panel only send a motion message when the system is alarmed. Your best best is to create an RFX device that will capture any signal from the MS (regardless of the state of the panel) From there, you create triggers based on those hs devices.

      Hi,

Ok, I understand what you say about the panel not receiving messages when it’s not armed, explains what I saw.

sorry to ask u what do you mean by a Rfx device?

My my idea was to use a second panel and a second ad2usb device, arm the system and then detect motion, (this is so the motion sensors are always powered by AC - no batteries, and always reporting status not based on ‘polling’ ever x min.)

      thanks

Battery operated motion sensors send an RFX message which the ad2usb captures, and provides to the plugin. The RFX messages are sent regardless of the state of the panel. So, you can capture motion at any time. I'm not sure if AC powered MSs do the same. You might consider just changing MS units. Adding another panel and ad2usb is not advised just to get this functionality.

PS RFX are transmitted in real time, whereas standard panel messages can have some delay.

I'm confused because my Vista 40 has all sort of motion messages and I use them to turn off lighting.
Jun-27 7:27:37 PM Vista Alarm FAULT 11 FRONT HALL MOTION
Jun-27 7:27:37 PM Event Event Trigger "Motion Foyer Timer Start by Motion"
What doesn't work is when the alarm is armed Stay my motion zones are bypassed and then you are out of luck to use them.

An RFX message looks like the following but i guess its only sent from wireless motion sensors. see the following example

            !RFX:0180036,80
i'm not sure what else you can do with your setup. you might check on the alarmdecoder.com website (maker of the ad2usb) for other ideas.
