    Hardware recommendations

    Hi

I would appreciate it if someone can give me some recommendations for modems (preferably USB) for use with this plugin.

Please let me know if the modem would work with HSphone as well.

    Thanks

Unfortunately, the only device that works with HSphone is the Way2Call.

Has anybody purchased a new modem lately to use with this plugin? If so what did you get?

Probably have better luck at surplus outlets that take in old hardware for resale and raw material scrap.

Problem with that is that Homeseer will continue to progress to Windows 10. 11, 25, or whatever while the drivers for surplus hardware likely will not. It seems a better strategy to find a modem that is currently supported by a manufacturer so that you know any required drivers will be available. The plugin just needs a modem that supports CID so all I need to know is what model modem supports Windows 10 and CID that folks are already using successfully with this plugin. Maybe something like this?

There are no CID drivers. For the modern ones you need a USB driver. The older ones are RS232 serial. You just need to find the AT sequence to Init the modem for CID. You link may be a good choice because Dell is usually pretty good for getting info.

I'd be worried about the fact that this is not described as a "Voice/Data/Fax modem with CID support", but just a Data/Fax modem. It might be OK, but.......

You might want to check out the list of supported modems for a non-HS phone product here: http://www.phonetray.com/modem
They list the Hiro H50228, Zoom 3095, and U.S. Robotics USR 5637.

There's no guarantee that these will work with UltraCID, but the fact that they work with Phonetray on Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, etc. - all the way back to XP, should be an indication that they'd probably be good for UltraCID. You should also read this thread:
              https://forums.homeseer.com/forum/te...ecommendations
Even though it's old, it specifically mentions some of the modems that have been tested and are known to work with UltraCID.

I am happy to report that this cheap Hiro USB modem works flawlessly with this plugin out of the box on HS3 running on Windows 7. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BZBXLK8/

Its the H50228. Not bad for 39.99.

I used it on my second line without a hitch. Windows found the drivers from microsoft, so no manual driver install.
