    Way2Call Issues - Fixed!

    Couple of items:

Bought a way2call via eBay. Trying to demo it quickly before return option expires.

Plugged it in, HS recognizes it. When I test the unit, it can't get a dial tone, but recognized when calls come in (CID working).

When I plug a phone into the "Phone" jack, I get no dial tone.

Also, the phone does not pick up after 3 rings to answer the call.

I installed the drivers from way2call.com. Should I not have done that?

    Any suggestions?

Is this a USB or serial Way2Call? Sounds like it may be defictive if it can't get a dial tone.

It must be getting something from the phone line if it is delivering the CID to Homeseer, no?

True, does it work with the Way2Call tray application?

I agree with Rupp that it should pass all the tests via the tray application. Have you rebooted and do you have it plugged in via a power supply? I would reboot without a power supply attached so the unit goes fully cold and resets itself.

Otherwise, I would check the W2C site and see if you can do a factory reset or something like that or update the firmware which should wipe any settings from the device. One word of caution, I believe their firmware update program is only supported to work on XP.

You can also try installing on a separate PC to make sure the install didn't go bad somehow.

It really should be that hard. I think the process is install the driver then plugin the device and all should work (the order to this might be important too - plugin then install or install then plugin).

Should?! Hoping that is a typo.

Interesting thing - frustrated I had tried everything, I changed the phone cord between the wall and the unit and things appear to be working. I use the word "interesting" because as I said, the unit was able provide CallerID, so I assumed that the wire HAD to be ok. I tested the wire between the unit and the phone itself and that seemed ok so I figured I was golden.

Go figure - all is working now.

                I meant shouldn't. Sorry.

For as much as the W2C retails for, it's really not that wonderful of a device. I think it has other VOIP features that make it special. I actually kind of wish I still had my PCI modem.

                  I agree.

Unfortunately, I ran out of slots in my Homeseer box and couldn't install the Homeseer PCI modem I bought years ago.

I agree that $350 is crazy to spend for what it does.

I did some searching and found one on eBay. I managed to grab it for $125. For me, it was worth $125 instead of the hassle to try and move cards around in my box in order to accommodate the modem.
