PC Interface w/ RC80

Do I need the DB9 converter to hook up the thermostat to my PC?

I'm a little confused as to what it takes to hook up and use the RC80
in a serial fashion w/ homeseer
The only converter I saw was 40 bucks through Worthington-

The RC80 they sell is 115$ - seems like a good deal if you don't need a
converter to use it w/ your PC

Well-

after a lot looking around seems if I want to use it via RS232 on a PC
that I do need a special serial cable -
sounds like fun trying to make the cable

It is not that hard to hook them up. Only four wires.

Thanks for the serial cable info- I was able to make a serial
cable for my HAIRC80..

Most importantly - thanks for an incredible plugin-
once - I got the cable made .. a bit of a "kludge" thx to
radioshack : )- The plugin immediately saw my thermostat
and is working beautifully -

Only had to run the cable 15 or so feet.. have to admit I'm
getting tire of the 'ole attic-

work I'm sure
