  • Errors logged from 2441TH

    Nathan,

I've sporadically seen some error messages regarding the 2441TH (see below).

Since both the From/To addresses are present, I assume these messages are "IM to host" messages and not "device to device" messages. If so, there should be a 0x02 prefix followed by the IM command (0x50, 0x51 ...).

I can recognize the 2441TH's address (20 47 DD) and my Hub's (1E 9E CF in some messages). Cmd1, Cmd2 and Flag fields are all over.

But what's consistent is that 0x01 at the start followed by the 2441TH's address. It seems odd that part of the message is stable and the rest erratic. What troubles me is that these thermostats are RF which should be more reliable than power line. So what's the issue with transmission?

Not a big deal, but wondering if I have an RMA potential?

    Anybody else seeing these?

    A new set of errors

I've started getting the following errors, any thoughts? The thermostat otherwise seems to operate ok; it reports humidity, heat on/off,etc.

      claude,

This looks an awful lot like the error that Charlie Wayne is getting where "devcat" seems to get lost and I have no idea how as it's only set at plugin startup and never reset or deleted.

Are you on a recent HS3 version like .156 or .163? I'm still back on .96 which has been very stable for me.

I will need to get a new version on my test machine and see if I can replicate these devcat issues you and Charlie seem to have.

I have updated my test system to the latest available 3.0.0.181 and Mark's Insteon Plugin 3.0.5.20. Without much delay I did see devcat issues show up so will be debugging with it this weekend.

Sorry, for the delay. Graduation season / family / vacation.

I posted new versions the last couple days. One of the fixes is focused on the missing DEVCAT. It seems sometimes after plugin startup the broadcast response with DEVCAT/FIRMWARE was being lost before it could make it back to this plugin. Without DEVCAT, many features of the plugin do not work correctly. I've added support during the thermostat polling that if it is missing the DEVCAT it will re-request it. You can poll the thermostat in several ways including now from the Config page, thermostats tab, there's a new Poll button. This specifically addresses the missing DEVCAT as that Poll button forces a DEVCAT re-query first.

              I am having similar issues.
              HS3 Standard Edition 3.0.0.187
              Marks Insteon plugin 3.0.5.20
              Insteon thermostat 3.0.2.2

I get the following in the config: Thermostat [???,FFFFFFFF,]
Insteon device category (devcat) is not set yet.

I have tried to delete and register the thermostat, but it still have no communication.

In Marks insteon plugin it seems to be working correctly. Device Type 0510 0D 1 i2CS 100% (1 failed out of 410 cmds) 406 0 0 Excellent.

              Ping test works.
Testing communications complete for Hall 2441 Thermostat (1F.19.30)
              Ping Results: 19 out of 20 attempts = 95%

              Summary of ping responses:
              Message Stat Count Percentage
              1 Hop (Excellent) 19 95%
              2 Hops (Good) 0 0%
              3 Hops (Poor) 0 0%
              Failed 1 5%

Any help appreciated. I am very new to Insteon and Homeseer so it may be something I have done incorrectly.

Ok, it sounds like you've added your Insteon thermostat as a device under Mark's plugin. You don't want to do that. My Insteon thermostat plugin will register your thermostat as an external device with Mark's plugin and that will allow correct communications.

I recommend you delete any Thermostats you have defined in the Insteon Thermostat plugin on the Config page, Thermostats tab. Then go into Mark's plugin and delete the thermostat as a device from his. Finally go back to the Insteon Thermostat plugin on the Config page, Thermostats tab and add it back in. This time it should register correctly. The very first operation is to poll the thermostat for the protocol, devcat and firmware and you can see those on that in the square brackets when successful.

Do you get any error messages when you start up the Insteon thermostat? I would expect Mark's plugin to probably issue a warning or error about trying to register an external device with the Insteon address as a device his plugin has registered?

I have started getting these errors as well. Everything was working fine, but they just started showing up:

What versions of HS3, Mark's Insteon plugin and this Insteon Thermostat plugin are you running?

I've only been able to reproduce the DEVCAT errors while having a browser tab up showing the Thermostat status page and then either restarting the plugin or all of HS3. There is a time at the beginning of the plugin startup where the devcat request has been sent but not received and a status page refresh can cause those devcat errors.

Assuming you have updated to the latest version of the plugin (if not, please do), if you see more errors like this, go to the Config->Thermostats tab and see if there is any information in the brackets under the Thermostat name. Assuming there isn't or maybe [??,??,??] or similar, use the Poll button right there on the config page which will reissue a request for the devcat info followed by a thermostat poll. That should resolve it.

I would be interesting in getting your full unedited HS3\Logs\InsteonThermostatDebug.log so I can see the timeline here in case we truly do have a situation I have not yet been able to reproduce.

                        Hey Nathan,

I am running 3.0.5.20 of Mark's plugin and 3.0.2.2 of yours. Unfortunately, I might not have any data for you. After I posted the message, I restarted your plugin, and now the errors aren't appearing in the log. The Thermostats config page is also correct. If the errors start happening again, I will turn on the debug flag and send you the log.
