  • Log and Error Questions

Previously in HS2 I pooled my Tstats ever 6 mins cause I graph the data in a database.

Over the last week I have started to switch over to HS3 and noticed errors in the Log.

What might these errors below mean?
    also
When I create a event for pooling, I check do not log the event box. While it doesn't log the actual event, it does fill my log up with the values it returns from the Tstats. Is this expected?

    Thanks

    Charlie

If this was working as expected there shouldn't be any logs from your event. What you are seeing is the plugin thinks it doesn't know what device category (devcat) applies to your specific thermostat. This is something that is discovered when the plugin starts up or when you add a new thermostat via the config page. It has to know the devcat so it can adjust what commands it sends. I will have to experiment with mine and see if I can reproduce a similar scenario.

Were running similar Tstats. Mine is a T1900 with the Insteon adapter, so I get an extra value of Humidity.

If u need me to do something, pls let me know.

Also another issue I have is, the plugin keeps changing the HVAC modes from off to cool and such forth. I do have some events that turn the units on/off or change set temps, but none that match these times or behaviors.

Or are the below logs just the 2 Ton HVAC unit hitting its upper dead-band, and activating the compressor to bring the temp down and logging its activity?

Heres the logs for the above.

            Hello,

I was wondering if it would be possible to get the lower temperature values from the external probe to show up correctly in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. Currently all that it shows on my screen (Only when it hits below the 0C) it not longer displays the correct value (for example; if the external probe reads -11F on the thermostat the device Value in HS3 is 244 - which show up blank or unknown to Homeseer.

I've tried playing around with some of the settings but i couldn't get a proper negative value to display (in Fahrenheit or in Celsius).

            I'm running;
            > A Hometroller S5 with HS3 (Latest updates installed v.3.0.0.152 WinXp)
            > Using the latest updated version of the Insteon thermostat Plugin provided in HS3
            > Using the Serial Insteon PLM

            Thanks,
            Evan G

Mark has been helping with a what looks to be a general issue with the Insteon Network as well (Here's the Tread on that)

Also here is the Status Page where its gone.

Do you think this is something thats happening within your plugin?

The thermostat devcat (Device Category) is set when the plugin starts up and requests it from the existing thermostats already configured. Or, it's set when a new thermostat is added via the web config page. Once the request / reply is made, the devcat is never removed from the thermostat so I'm unsure how you are getting this sequence to happen.

I suggest after this error happens, go check the Insteon Thermostat web config page under Thermostats tab and see what is in the square brackets under the 4 ton (or whichever has the error). When correctly working it should show something similar to: VenstarT1800 [0503,95,2]

You might try stopping and restarting the Insteon plugin after this error happens and see if things return to normal. This will cause a clean reconnect to the thermostats.

I'm not sure if any of the Insteon problems you mentioned in the other thread could somehow be related. Not sure how, as the devcat is a set once at beginning and done.

You'll note from my footer I am still back on 3.0.0.96. I've found this version stable for my use and have seem way to many stability issues in newer HS3 versions to consider upgrading myself yet. I may have to give it a shot on my test machine however to see if I can reproduce this strange behavior. I'll need to ponder this some more.

I've been having a ton of issues with this plugin/connectivity to my ventstar thermostats as well. Seems like 1 or 2 of my 3 work, but its inconsistent and they seem to change every boot up. I dont think ive ever had all 3 function correctly especially upon reboot.

I know there's been a few releases to mark's insteon plugin, and HS3 since you made this plugin available. I can definitely help try to debug but it sure seems that enough of us are having instability issues to warrant some proactive debugging/research by the dev.

Please let me know how i can help.

                    Thanks,

Were still having issues but I'm haven't had time to take or try on what u wrote above.

I was thinking of adding events to restart the plugins, but thats a very bandaid approach.

CharlieWayne and I are having the exact same problem. I believe DEVCAT isnt functioning as you expect it should be (possibly getting overwritten every start of the plugin/hs?

                            Kuntakitay,

Is there a trigger in events so that we can tell if one of the tstats are not responding?

If so try and construct an event with the tstat not responding and an action of restarting the plugins.

I'm away till next week then I can test with mine, well at least till this Dev can fix this problem.

Sorry for the delay guys. Graduation season / family / vacation.

I have upgraded my DEV system to the latest HS3 3.0.0.181 and Mark's latest 3.0.5.20 and now have seen at least one occurrence of the devcat issue. I will need to spend some quality debugging time with this and get back with you. This definitely appears to be some issue related to those upgrades.
