  • Venstar T1800 w/2441V External Temp Sensor?

    Nathan,

I see from your signature that you have a T1800 w/2441V. Do you also have the wireless remote sensor? If so, did you connect the receiver to RS1 or RS2? I am trying to determine where you pull the values when you check the Ext Temp box in your plugin. I tried both RS1 and RS2 and neither seem to get updated in the plugin.

I do not have an external temp sensor on my T1800 w/2441V. I also have another Venstar T1700 with integrated Insteon but don't believe it has an external sensor either.

Is this what you're asking about? The ACC0400

The only tstat I have with an external sensor is a SH 2441ZTH (wireless) with the wired ext sensor.

Looking at that at smarthome.com one of the reviewers mentions this will only report the temp back to the Venstar thermostat for display but can't send over the Insteon interface.

        http://www.smarthome.com/venstar-acc...r.html#reviews

Looking at the manual for the 2441V it doesn't mention supporting a separate external temp sensor, only the default internal one. Page 8 covers the 'change reports' that the 2441V adaptor supports.
        http://cache-m2.smarthome.com/manuals/2441V.pdf

Finally, I rechecked the development data sheet and it doesn't list the external sensor. This is compared to the datasheet for the 2441ZTH (wireless SH tstat with external sensor option) that does have a specific listing for an external sensor.

So, I'm not sure it's possible to send the external temp reading from the Venstar via Insteon? Even if I had the receiver/sensor (about $75+S/H) I would still need the linkage information and the development doc doesn't have that.

I found another couple posts stating the 2441V can not report the external temp sensor information back. I will contact Smarthome to see if they have any upgrades to the 2441V planned that might allow that in the future. I could use this myself so am hoping they do add it.

Thanks for checking with Smarthome on this. I will be VERY interested to hear if they are able to add this functionality to the 2441V. The wireless solution works great in the T1800 - I would love to be able to view the values in HS3.

Unfortunately I received the response back from Smarthome that the 2441V does not support external temp sensor and doesn't sound like it will any time soon. Hopefully they reconsider this at some point.

              My request:
I have a Venstar T1800 thermostat and one of your 2441V Insteon adaptors for
it. I'd like to pick up the wireless receiver/sensor for the Venstar and
report the external temperature back via the 2441V Insteon.

Is this a supported feature? If not, are there any plans to add External
Temp support to the 2441V ?
              And the Smarthome response:
              Nathan,
Thank you for contacting Smarthome. Unfortunately the 2441v does not support that feature. It only allows for temp control of the thermostat and its modes. At this time I am not aware of that capability coming to the 2441v. I do not foresee it coming anytime soon unfortunately.

That is disappointing. Hopefully Smarthome will reconsider at some point.

Their working on a heat pump tstat of their own right now. Once that comes out, say bye bye to venstar support.
