According to the documentation that came with my new TR40-RS485 thermostat,
"Cooling Delta Stage 1: Range 1 to 8 degrees: Default: 1
Sets the delta from setpoint that stage 1 cooling starts. Stage 1 turns off at setpoint. "
With the default value in Cooling Delta for Stage 1 and a setpoint of 76, at the very moment the thermostat gets to 76, it turns the A/C "off". In a minute or less, as the air settles, the thermostat is reading 77 and wants the A/C back on again.
The cycling was hammering my A/C.
So...I changed the Cooling Delta Stage 1 from the default of 1 to 2. Which, according to the documentation, would mean the A/C should now turn "on" at 78 and not turn "off" until it reaches my cooling setpoint at 76. What it does, in reality, now it turns the A/C "on" at 78 and "off" at 77, never reaching my setpoint.
It is behaving more like a delta shift of both the upper and lower limit range, rather than a 1 degree broadening of that range.
What am I doing wrong?
