    One device always missing

I was wondering what it means when I have one device that is always missing? The device is working but always shows as missing in the report.

    Hi
Can you give me a bit more information?

When you say 'always missing ' is it missed wake-up, or missed poll or something else?
What type of device is it?
What is the status string of the monitoring device showing?

Whenever I get the report it is always the same device that is missing Wakeup Call. I have copied and pasted the report that I get. the TV Room Motion Sensor Root always misses the wakeup call. It is a zooz motion sensor.

        Hi

It is showing in that report that the device woke up twice but only 13 seconds apart! The plug-in then raised an alert because it expected the next wake-up to be 13 seconds later.

This might indicate a dodgy device, but is probably poor communication between the device and the Z-Wave controller. Can you have a look at your HS log for the period around 11:07 on 2021-02-03, say a couple of minutes each side. If you could post this to see the multiple wake-ups and perhaps some indication of errors.

The plug-in has a setting to ignore multiple wake-ups within a short period of time, as this sometimes happens if HS is slow to acknowledge the wake-up from the device. It is the MinWakePeriod on the Battery Devices page. The default is 10 seconds so try increasing it to say 30 seconds. But let's look at what the log shows first.

            Hi,

I can see the problem. In that 30 second snippet of log that device woke up 4 times at 4 second intervals!

You probably have the default setting for MinWakePeriod in SDJ-Health of 10 seconds. So the plug-in ignores the 2nd and 3rd wake-ups but registers the 4th, as it is 12 seconds after the first. The device probably then went back to sleep for an hour, or whatever its sleep period is set to. SDJ-Health will have registered a Missed Wakeup when it didn't wake-up 12 seconds after the last one it registered.

If you change the MinWakePeriod in SDJ-Health to 30, or perhaps, 60 seconds then it will ignore the burst of wake-ups from the device and treat them as one. This will solve the problem as far as SDJ-Health is concerned.

However, it indicates a problem with the device or your Z-Wave network that I would suggest you try resolving. All those wake-ups will drain the battery as well as impact on network performance.

One thing that you can see in the log is that HS is polling the device several times when it wakes-up. These will be queued polls that you have set for the device or called from Events. Have a look at the device, Node 50 on your 'PLUG-INS>Z-Wave>Node Information' page. Post a screenshot of what it shows if you can.
I suspect you have polling set for the parent or for a number of the child devices. I don't know the details of the device but it is very unlikely that anything other then the battery child requires polling. Unnecessary polling will prematurely flatten the battery as well as possibly cause slow downs on your Z-Wave network. Even the battery child might not require polling if it is a modern device.

Remove all the polling, except possibly the battery child, and then keep an eye on your log to see if it cures the multiple rapid wake-up issue with the device. If it isn't cured then it probably indicates a communication issue with your Z-Wave controller. The device might appear to be working ok, but HS acknowledgements might be taking too long to get back to the device, so it tries sending the wake-up notification again.

If you solve the problems with this device you might want to check that you don't have other devices with similar issues.

            I hope this helps.

            Steve

OK thanks! This particular device is a motion sensor and when I looked at it, it seemed to be polling seconds apart for the battery, security, tamper. I have set them to different times now. How would I disable polling? Do I set it to zero time?

Yes, set to zero to stop polling.
