  • Map Download Error

This may be related to the PWS/Wunderground API issue.

I am using a couple of Wunderground links to download local and PWS weather graphs

    https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin...pe=3&width=614

    and

    https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin...in=1download=1

Wunderground appears to return the correct graph for each link when entered directly into a browser and these links have downloaded and replaced into the maps graphic folder without error in the past..

Attempts to download from within the WeatherXML device/schedule now returns the following log errors
    May-30 4:23:38 PM weatherXML mapSwapValue: LocID: 1, ChildRefID: 3780
    May-30 4:23:38 PM weatherXML mapSwapValue: LocID: 1, ChildRefID: 3779
    May-30 4:23:38 PM weatherXML mapSwapValue: LocID: 1, ChildRefID: 3778
    May-30 4:23:38 PM weatherXML mapSwapValue: LocID: 1, ChildRefID: 3777
May-30 4:23:38 PM weatherXML Error downloadMapImage: A web exception has occured [https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin...n=1download=1] for device 3777. System returned: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.
    May-30 4:23:37 PM weatherXML mapSwapValue: LocID: 1, ChildRefID: 3776
May-30 4:23:37 PM weatherXML Error downloadMapImage: A web exception has occured [https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin...e=3&width=614] for device 3776. System returned: The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.
    May-30 4:23:37 PM weatherXML mapSwapValue: LocID: 1, ChildRefID: 3205
    May-30 4:23:37 PM weatherXML mapSwapValue: LocID: 1, ChildRefID: 3204
Any idea why these links will not access under the current version .10? It might be that the coming PWS API version may resolve.

    Thanks

From the error message, it is saying that WU is returning a Forbidden message. WU is no longer providing any data for free. If you have a Weather Station are are uploading data to WU you may be able to get a new API. However, the new API does not use the same files or file formats so there is no integration with WU at this time. I am working on adding support for the new API but it will only provide Current Conditions and a 5 Day forecast.

I do have PWS and new key. See PM last week re offer to use key for WU PWS testing.

Odd thing is you can enter link from post and WU returns graph so I don't think it is a pay issue. Might be related to https vs http coming out of WetherXML plugin call.

When I click on links (even the links in post or error message) it returns both graphs so not sure what is happening.

      Thanks for the quick response!

Could even be a cookie in my browser that lets the download occur.

Between a tornado and thunderstorms with tons of rain this week, I don't remember much of anything from last week. The tornado missed our neighborhood, but it was close enough that I could hear it in the distance.

I'm not sure how the web site knows the difference between someones browser. Figure it is probably something in the headers of the request. I did notice that WU requires a header allowing for compression of the file. I'll check the code and see if anything stands out to change.

No worries. Several near misses here as well. Crazy season but better than the long drought from past years.

I did check same URLs using several de-cookied browsers and all pulled the correct graphs so it must be something in the way the code is transmitting the request that WU doesn't like. I thought maybe my default browser may be storing some WU login info that was letting the URL request pass with no errors.

Well it seems WU may have changed something again over the weekend. Now all attempts to access either URL return:

An error occurred while processing your request.
