I use a lot of this plugin in many different areas of automation ranging from irrigation, security, storm prep, and even weather games with the family. This should be a default plugin included with Homeseer.

Currently running on HS4 with version 3.0.1.19 of the plugin and so far everything is still working. Without Jeff updating anymore, it's only a matter of time before it stops working. When weather underground was bought by IBM and they wanted to charge $400+ per month for the api calls, Jeff was right there to migrate to an alternate provider (DarkSky) and it's been working great ever since.
I am using a combo of WeatherXML and rnbWeather. rnb uses OpenWeather api and it is working well for the weather part. russr999 999 is still adding elements and it is all based on Jeff's work. I still use WeatherXML for my alerts and database connectivity as that is not yet available/working correctly in rnb. OpenWeather has an "easy Dark Sky Migration" as their json is built in much the same way.

I just installed and also got the error repeatedly - downloadFile: NOAA Weather Condition from: http://w1.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KMMU.xml. Error: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel. There doesn't seem to be a solution to this as people just said it goes away? Is this the case? Thanks.

I see that, too, all the time, but everything seems to function as it should (e.g., current conditions, forecast, etc).

Can you change the http: in the link to https: ? The website is trying to do an auto-redirect from http: to https but it's timing out. The https: link is immediate.

I don’t see a way to change the http to https in the interface? I will look further but if anyone has any pointers.

it definitely is not working - currently I am getting a high of 72, when the actual temps are in the 90’s. There are also alerts active right now and I don’t see any devices for alerts.

            thanks.

I don't believe there is anywhere to change from http to https in the setup. There are multiple entries in the weathering.ini file that have http url entries that people in the past have tried to change to https but I don't think that will resolve anything (or might cause further issues). I changed my location to KMMU and ran the current conditions without error (and the conditions went to hot and muggy!). Could it be a TLS 1.0 issue with your system? What system/version are you running?

It works for me with Win10, HSPRO 4.1.18.2

                  2 things to check -

                  1. Can you access the url from a browser on the Win 10 machine.

                  2. Do you see anything else in the WeatherXML debug log that points to an issue?
                  a. Plugins, WeatherXML, Settings (ip_addr/weatherXML_config), set logging level to WeatherXML Log File
                  b. Go to schedules and click run now on Conditions
                  c. Go to Debug Log (ip_addr/weatherXML_misc)
                  d. Review and/or post the log to see if anything stands out.
                  e. SET THE LOG LEVEL BACK TO "Errors"

Don't know if you will see anything causing the errors but worth a chance.

Thanks for the help. I am getting the same error in the log that I get in the Homeseer log.

When I paste the web page from below that is causing the error (http://w1.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KMMU.xml) into chrome on my Homeseer Windows 10 machine it works fine.

Is this because I am using HS3? Thanks.

Sorry - Probably can't provide any additional help. Pete and bdraper mention that they are still using HS3 and I used it with HS3 for a long time without issues.

                      Any ideas from anyone else?

ITguyHS Thanks for the response. I haven't used CURL as I am not sure what how to? I am doing some searches on this to figure it out, but if you have time to provide some pointers, that would be great.

First, check folder Homeseer HS3\Bin\weatherXML and see if you have curl.exe. It should probably already be there, as Jeff provides it as part of the base install. If it's there, then just go to the Locations tab in weatherXML and look about half-way down for the section titled "NOAA weather forecast setup". Check the "use CURL" box. Leave the "curl path" empty. Stop weatherXML and restart. That's it.

Be aware that the curl support was originally added for Windows XP machines only, but should work in any version of Windows. It bypasses some of the built-in Windows support for http, so it can sometimes be a fix for http transport problems.

ITguyHS Thanks for this. I went ahead and tried this. Either through this or a combination of other things above it seems like everything is working except current conditions.

The error I get is: "downloadFile: NOAA Weather Condition from: http://w1.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KMMU.xml. Error: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel."

I can access that file without any issues on the homeseer machine in chrome - which I suspect doesn't necessarily mean homeseer can see it. I also manually downloaded the file into the data\weatherxml folder to see if I could fool it. But it looks for an presumably deletes the file judging by the logs.

So I have everything except current conditions working so far. This might be as good as it gets unless there are any other ideas? Thanks.

Interesting. If you look at the "NOAA Weather Conditions Setup" under the Locations tab, does it show http://w1.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/ or show https://w1.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/ (the difference being http vs. https)?
