    Relationship between UPStart and HS

What is the relationship between the Unit ID set by UPStart and the Device Code in HS? It seemed very logical at first:
    Unit ID 001 = $1
    Unit ID 002 = $2
    Unit ID 003 = $3
    Unit ID 004 = $4

I could see a pattern that would make it very easy to label each device (especially plug-in modules) so I would know what HS knew them as. I labeled each one $1, $2, Etc.

Well, for some reason that I can't figure out, HS renumbered them when I added Unit ID 005. Now:
    Unit ID 001 = $1
    Unit ID 002 = $2
    Unit ID 003 = $5
    Unit ID 004 = $3
    Unit ID 005 = $4

What is going on? Can I not count on the Device Code to be the same in HS each time it starts? When I add a new device, I want it to be the next HS Code in sequence. Otherwise, how could I possibly label my modules so I know which HS code will control that module?

The UPB module ID has nothing to do with the HomeSeer device code. They may start out in sync but deleting, renaming, adding, etc. will cause them to diverge. UPB uses the concept of room and device names to keep track. HomeSeer will use the room and device name given to the device.

HomeSeer will use the room and device name given to the device.
      Not reliably, it doesn't:

In UPStart I have two devices called Front Foyer, Lamp 1 and Front Foyer, Lamp 2.

In HS, they are known as Front Foyer, Lamp 2 and Front Foyer, Lamp 3.

When the plugin creates the devices it uses the information from the UPStart export file. If you change the device name or location in UPStart the plugin will rename the device in HomeSeer. Honestly - it does not make any names up :>

You might want to do some more testing.

When I changed the name of a device in UPStart, HS did NOT reflect the change until I deleted the device from HS and restarted HS. Then it picked up the new name. In fact, I can see in the log where it imported the devices that I had just renamed:

Database Item Saving Device Lamp 1
Database Item Saving Device Lamp 2

It would be really nice if HS recognized the change and automatically reimported the device without having to delete it first.

It should, and does for me. What build of HS and the UPB plug-in are you using?

Can you turn on detailed debug logging in the plugin, shutdown HS, edit the name of one device in UPStart, re-export the file and then post the HS log? This might help me figure out what is going wrong. Also let me know what the original and new device names are.

                Thanks

                    #10
Sorry, I didn't know how to save the log to a file I could attach so I cut and pasted it. The old device name was Guest Bedroom 1:Lamp 1.

I changed it to Guest Bedroom 1:Changed in UPStart but HS still shows Lamp 1.

                      #11
I deleted "Lamp 1" and restarted HS. Now it shows the device named "Changed".

I'll look at the code tomorrow and see if I can figure out what is happening. It is finding the matching device just fine, and then it should update the database fields. When I run here I get additional database messages that you are not getting. Also your PIM is not getting ACKs from your devices so you should turn off the retry option in the plugin. Hopefully there will be a softare fix for this as soon as PCS figures out what is happening.
