Looking for a touchscreen / TV...

Hey guys I found this pretty cool device on ebay and was wondering if I could get some opinions:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-S...ayphotohosting

I am looking for a small touchscreen to extend my homeseer computer to the kitchen. I would also need the abaility to have a TV tuner so it could be used as a TV. I have read posts on this board about putting a tuner card in your PC for TV, but my homeseer computer has enough stuff to do already. Let me know what you think...

    Thanks.

This is a decent price but an 8" TV is very very small.

Have you seen another device with a larger screen that has the same features?

I bought this one from ebay:

I paid about $130. It's a 7" Touchscreen. I got it from the same guy he's still selling them. I am using it in the Kitchen. I may buy another one for my Foyer.

That one does not have a tv tuner built in, right? How is the resolution & picture?

I have not used it, but it is the same size as Audrey and would work very nice in a kitchen, den, laundry or other close-quarter application. When I've viewed the TV on the PC screen I will typically only use only a 3 or 4 inch window so 8 inches is plenty big unless you expect to watch if from the other side of the room. The ergonomics should also be good for the WAF.

If all you are looking for is a HS touchscreen without the integrated TV then you can usually find used ones at half that price. If I recall I paid about $80 after shipping for a nice ELO 12" one a few months back.

Michael brings up a good point. It is totally Dependant on the size of your room My kitchen is long so the distance from the TV to the table is about 20 feet and the 15" TV works good. If your distance is less 8" may be perfect.

Do you need to use a PEN for the touch or just your finger ? Is this plugging into a standard PC or did you do something embedded ?

                          grauchy,

I just got one of these from the same vendor today and cannot get the software to work in order to calibrate it. Did the installation cd work for you? What OS are you running?

So I ended up with a screen without the TV tuner:

                            http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

Its pretty cool, 640x480 resolution. Looks nice. It has a couple video inputs where I plan to put my security cameras and Cable box. I also am having trouble with the software for it. The calibration tool does not work. The software seems very "cheap" but hey it was...

I have the exact same screen in my kitchen which I use mainly for XLobby which works great. I also have a STB running through one of the AV connections which works well also. I had no problems configuring the touch interface though. The only complaint would be that when I occasionally use it as a monitor the text is a bit broken up, but like you said it was cheap ($AU 230)
