Remove Delayed Device Action, Remove Delayed Event Trigger Action, & Cancel Event Act

I have looked at the HS docs and I don't fully understand what the difference between the following actions are:
    • Remove Delayed Device Action
    • Remove Delayed Event Trigger Action
    • Cancel Event Action

Being very new to HS, they all sound the same (almost) to me. What causes a Delayed Action to happen anyway? When would one be used over the other?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

    up (5 years later )

The documentation is just repeating the name of the event
    Which is not helpful...
    Thx

PS: BTW if someone knows how to configure this forum in a way that, by default, I subscribe to "instant email notification", this would be great.
Sometime I forget to set it manuall so I miss some answers

I'm not sure why this didn't get addressed, but probably just wasn't noticed.

When you create an event, among the options for the actions it will take are a device action (e.g. to turn a device on or off) or an action to run another event (with its own list of actions). For each of those options you are also given the opportunity to delay when the action will occur. (That can be useful if, for example, you have a motion detector that turns on some lights and you want them to go off again after some period of inactivity.) Which one you choose will depend on how complex your event action will be. A simple 'turn light off' can be accomplished with a device action, but turning off several lights or setting a lighting scene might require a sequence of actions that you can initiate by calling a pre-configured event.

During the delay period it is possible to prevent either of these types of actions from occurring. (Using my example, if motion was detected again and you want to 'reset' the delay clock.)
-If you want to prevent a change in the state of a device that was delayed, then you would choose "Remove Delayed Device Action". At that point you'll be presented with a list of devices to let you choose which device you are referring to.
-If you want to prevent a an event from running after the delay, then you would choose "Remove Delayed Event Trigger Action". In this case you'll be presented with a list of events so you can identify the one you have in mind.
-Finally, if an event has already started to execute, but you want to stop it, then you'd choose "Cancel Event Action".

I've never had occasion to use the last one, so I have no idea how it works.
