    UPB Gen-II

so, I know the press release from PCS just happened yesterday and the technical details are not yet available, but what do you think the timeframe would be to have UPB Gen-II support once the devices hit the market?

Sound like most of those features are out already. The only real new part is the availability of a repeater, and its about time.

The details are sparse right now. I have messages into PCS but I haven't gotten much back. It looks right now like GenII is mostly backwards compatible but that's just conjecture right now. I know for sure that the logic for the keypads will have to change since they have added new commands to communicate with them.

I wonder if these "Gen II" PCS functions are the same functions that Simply Automated have included for some time now?

Also offered in PulseWorx Generation II is a set of new features that address customer requests. Auto-Off allows the load to automatically shut off after a preset period of time.
This sounds a lot like the timer function in the Simply Automated US11-40:

A timer function is available in the US11-40. Controller commands or rocker taps can turn ON the load and preset the timer period. The US11-40 automatically turns OFF at the end of the period. The available preset times are: 1 Sec., 5 Sec., 30 Sec., 1 Min., 2 Min., 4 Min., 10 Min., 20 Min., 30 Min., 40 Min., 50 Min., 1 Hr., 2 Hrs. 3 Hrs. and 4 Hrs. The default setting is: Timer Off.
Another PCS Gen II feature is:

The response time between tapping a rocker and affecting a light has been significantly decreased.
But Simply Automated has had adjustable local response time in the US11-40:

To turn lights on faster, local response time adjustments are available (300, 450, 600 and the default 750 mSec) and configured with UPStart configuration software. Local response time is the time from rocker press to load response.
And another PCS Gen II "innovation:"

Additionally, the look of the PulseWorx product line has been modernized with cool blue LEDs.
Sorry, Simply Automated has this as well.

I have some of the newer SA modules..

I also didn't see much that GENII has over the SA newer modules. SA rolled their new versions without much fanfare but all the features are almost all there.

The only thing that seems like a leap is the guarantee that noise won't be an issue if you have one of the GENII coupler/repeaters. I currently have on circuit that has very, very poor signal signal strength and I can't figure out what is sucking up the signal.

Will this repeater help all brands of UPB or only PCS?

from what i've heard, the repeater will only help gen-ii devices, so if that's only pcs, then that's what it is... although, i don't know why it will only help gen-ii devices... isn't a upb signal a upb signal either way?

Yes, I think it will work with all UPB devices.

HAI Announces GenII UPB Switches, neat new remote, same price

                        FYI... received this today...
HAI's Award-Winning HAI Lighting Control (HLC) Products Shipping with Generation II UPB (Universal Powerline Bus) Technology for Enhanced Reliability and Added Features
                        New Orleans, LA - November 1, 2007
Home Automation, Inc. (HAI), a leading manufacturer of integrated security and home automation products since 1985, is now shipping all products in its award-winning HLC product line with Generation II UPB Technology adding to its superior reliability and features.
The HLC line of fully two-way communicating lighting control products includes dimmers, switches, keypads, a remote control, and a new table top cradle. HLC products do not require new wiring to be run so they can be easily installed in new or existing homes with standard electrical wire.
New features and benefits provided by the new Generation II UPB technology include:
                        - Improved communication and enhanced noise immunity for superior reliability even in the noisiest of environments.
                        - Swifter reaction time of switches when tapped; virtually no delay between tapping of switch and light reaction.
                        - Full compatibility with UPB split phase repeaters.
HAI began incorporating the Generation II UPB technology in its HLC line in July so that all HLC products shipping by November 1, 2007 would include the Generation II UPB enhancements. There are no changes or increases in pricing to the HLC products as a result of the enhancements.
"Adding the Generation II UPB enhancements without any price increase is just another way HAI demonstrates its commitment to providing the most reliable, affordable and sophisticated products to the home controls market," explains HAI President Jay McLellan.
HAI's award-winning HLC product line is available through HAI's worldwide network of Distributors and installing dealers. For more information, please visit www.homeauto.com or call 800-229-7256.
