Leviton and Cooper Scene Class Interoperability

I have had several people ask me about using Leviton scene devices with Cooper scene controllers, vise versa, and programming/setting up scenes with both brands of handheld remote controls.

We did some testing and I am sharing the results here.

The short answer is that the in-wall scene controllers and the scene devices all play together very nicely, which is to be expected since they are all Z-Wave which is suppose to mean interoperability.

However, the glitch is that the in-wall scene controllers, if not programmed by HomeSeer, must be programmed by the same manufacturer's handheld remote control. To a large degree I can understand this not working, but if they tried a little I am sure they could have made it work...

I think part of the reason that they need their own manufacturer's remote to program them is that Cooper's in-wall scene controllers have a feature that allows them to control non-scene devices, which is done in the programming, and Leviton does not have that. Also, the Cooper remote requires that you push a button on the wall controller to tell it which button to download the scene to, and while the Leviton passed this test, the transfer still failed because (I assume) of the aforementioned situation, and I did not do the test with the Leviton handheld but I am going to assume that it failed because of some similar manufacturer specific way of indicating where the scene goes. Suffice it to say, "that dog won't hunt", so you will need to keep this in mind. Of course using HomeSeer fixes that. ;-)

When a scene with an ON command was triggered, neither controller operated any devices, so I suspect a bug in the current beta version of HomeSeer such that the proper level is not being set, so we will investigate that, but if you are trying this and get different results, keep that in mind - set the level to 99% instead of ON when you create your scene.

If you are still unable to get it to work, contact us - there are some old Zensys (Z-Wave) issues that may be at work too, but their probability of occurring is low.

Thanks - hope it answers some questions for some of you.
    Regards,

    Rick Tinker (a.k.a. "Tink")
