    Power outages during storm

Just an FYI - had a brief storm pass thru. Using plugin version 1.4.2.0 in PLM mode. HSPro Beta .66. There was much lighting and the power went off a couple of times during the storm between maybe 5-10 seconds. This error came up in the HS log.

9/21/2010 7:23:46 PM Insteon ** An error occurred in this plug-in. The details have been written to the log file - C:\Program Files\HomeSeer 2\Config\Insteon Error Report.Log

    Insteon Error Report.log showed.

Later went to check status of links and port was still shut down.

Tried a couple of times to disable/enable plugin.

So I tried to disable/enable plugin a couple of times. Same message in the log as above.

I then disabled plugin again. I reset the PLM. Enabled the plugin. Same message.

I shutdown HS/Server. Restarted Server/HS. All is well.

    Pete,
    thanks for the detailed feedback.

do you know what version of the ftdi chipset drivers you are running?

I utilize a serial PLM. Where do I find the version of the FTDI chipset drivers?

I haven't seen this problem before with a serial PLM (i have a 2412S as well). No drivers for a PLM that connect to a physical serial port.

is your PLM connected directly to your hs server with a serial cable? or are you using some other connection or usb/serial port emulator?

My serial plm is connected directly to my hs server via a physical mobo serial port; when the power is lost the plugin will balk during the outage but continues to work once power is restored to the PLM.

This is the first time I've seen this with a power outage. I've had a few in the last few months mostly occurring during storms.

The serial PLM is connected to a Digi 1USB-8Serial port box (years). The odd thing is that the port seemed to be shut down and the plugin was acting as if there was no serial port. Wondering if the lightning or a voltage surge shut the port down. I went to the system menu/port settings and tried to disable the port. I then saw what appeared to be a HS message relating to the HS DB/com port. It didn't work anyways until I shut down the PC.

based on my experience with different flavors of usb and serial ports, it makes sense that the port dropped offline. usb seems to want to close ports if it senses a disconnect. (a similar thing happens with the usb based PLMs ) is there an option on the driver of the Digi to prevent "closing on disconnect" from happening?

              Pete,

I should have mentioned earlier that i have had no luck getting the plugin to recover (through code) from this type of error. It seems the only fix is a restart of the hardware which you discovered.

I hope you can resolve this issue via your hardware

                Just a polling timer.

Worked right away after a reboot of the HW. Never saw this before with the many mini outages I've had.

We did have a short microburst last night along with the power outages. I have three potted plants weighing about 30 lbs each get knocked off the railing of the deck.

                Thanks Mark.
