    Insteon Polling Interval

    Hi,
I'm not sure I understand what the "Polling Interval" does. I have the ICON switch below set to poll every 1 minute . I'm getting good 98% Comm Reliability. Should the polling check for the status of the switch and turn it off if the switch is indeed off, see below for an example. This switch indicates that there is a light on in the kitchen when the light is off.
On Kitchen Kitchen Island Secondary Switch ^15 Insteon ICON SwitchLinc Relay Switch/Load Today 8:28:41 AM

On other strange thing that I noticed related to it, I see the status of a light updated during the night when I'm sure nobody had turned it on.

Last question, How the the "Comm Reliability" gets updated? I have some switches with a status of 99% (171 failed out of 14495 cmds) and some with (Not enough data). All of them are set to poll every minute. Why do I have a such higher number of cmds? are these the pollings?

    Thanks for your help,
    Aldo

    Aldo,
the polling should update the hs device status according to the physical switch assuming the device actually gets polled...keep reading

Not sure what is happening during the night time updates. Check the log for device status changes. You may need to turn on detailed logging.

comm stats aren't computed until 20 transactions have been attempted. "(Not enough data). " just means you haven't hit that threshold yet.

Please note: you can't poll every device every minutes. The insteon network can't handle that much traffic. You need to set only the most important devices (maybe 3-4) to every minute. Others should poll less frequently maybe every 5 minutes.

The idea is after the high priority devices get polling, then the lower priority devices get polled. And this pattern must be able to be completed every minute.

    I hope this helps
    Mark

      Hi Mark,
Thanks, I will keep you posted. Something strange is happening, but I need to collect more info to give you. I changed the polling to every five minutes, maybe this was the problem, too many devices polling in the same time.

Do all switches need to be polled. Don't they update when physically switched? With that said I did just turn on polling for one problem switch.

          John,

in a perfect world polling wouldn't be needed. the switches do broadcast their status (when changed) which the plugin captures and updates hs accordingly. But the broadcast msgs don't always make it to the plm for a variety of reasons.

i have most of my switches polled at either 5 or 10 minutes so if i have events that rely on a particular device state, i know the status will be correct.

            Hi Mark,
When you have a chance, could you please look at the file attached? I have few issues that perhaps you may help to resolve.

I tried your plugin this morning, I like the new features including registering the AP. Just letting you know it would not register the old devices 2442.

I also noted that when searching for an access point, it will give a message "Contacting the new device and reading setting" but it goes in a loop. By clicking Continue, I then see the device in the devices list.

On few devices, I get a warning: The link for this device have changed. I re-read the device links but without results.

I changed the interval to 5 minutes but I still have devices showing on when they are actually off. Could you please look at the log file provided to see if you can identify the issue?

Right now I also have issues with 14.D6.78, it was fine until few days ago until it would not read the table anymore.

            Happy Holiday,
            Aldo

              Aldo,

the 2442 is a different device type (0009). i'll have to add this later and let you give it a try. For now i would unregister this device otherwise you will have problems.

regarding device 14.D6.78, I see you have several devices like this one. Are you having problems reading the links from the other devices?

                Hi Mark,
It would be my pleasure to help.
It seems to be only this device.

                Thanks,

                  Hi Mark,
What would suggest me to do with this device? I tried to delete it and recreate but the application gave me few exceptions.

                  Thanks,
                  Aldo

                      Mi Mark,
The 2442 never got added to HS only the 2443. The 2443 are working great showing the status of each access point. How would I create an event to check on the status of these 2443 AP, I only see on and off status.
In regard of 14.D6.78, this device is an Icon relay that stopped responding before i added the 2442.

                      Device Type: Icon On/Off Switch
                      Firmware Version: 39
Comm Reliability: 52% (10985 failed out of 23051 cmds)

                      Thanks,

Aldo, with comm stats this low there must be something on the same circuit causing noise. you might reset the stats if you have already made some changes.

CFLs, power adapters and some power strips can cause enough noise to ruin the signals.
