    Problems with V6 Device

Just got two new 6-button KPLs. One of them is a new V6.0; 1213; Firmware V41 (I2CS Device). Had a lot of trouble getting it recongnized... adding by address didn't work. Used Tap-Add and after a few tries and device resets finally got it. I can change some settings (ramp rate), but trying to program Op flags or Button Modes, or to program the device to operate with HomeSeer doesn't work. Can't program any links, but I can create a link at the device (the hard way). Comm Reliability reports at 95% (34 fail of 708). Any ideas on this? Thanks!

What do the results of a Test Communcations look like?

what version of the plugin are you on? v1.7+ is required for i2cs devices

otherwise i think there is powerlike noise

      I'm running V1.7.3.1
      Comm test is perfect: 5% 1hop, 95% 2 hops.
But can't program for Homeseer, can't read link tables, can't program any links. After multiple attempts I did finally get it to program an Op flag.
Is this new protocol more susecptible to interferrence? This KPL is in the same gang box as two other KPLs (older versions) and they work perfectly.

as a test, can you move the new kpl somewhere else and test?

You can use an old cut extension cord and just wire nut the hot and neutral to the switch (cap the red) and then you can plug the switch in anywhere and retest the programming.

the new i2sc protocol is to improve message integrity with checksums. interference does not affect it any more or less than older switches.

my last resort would be to do another hw reset on the device, then try the program for homeseer button. you don't need to delete it from the plugin for this.

          Skimis,

Not saying your situation is the same, but thought I would point you to my experience with my first i2CS device [http://board.homeseer.com/showpost.p...78&postcount=6]

As with your experience, every other device on that same circuit was communicating fine with my PLM.

The current KPL documentation has no mention of it being dual band so RF can't help bypass the electrical noise (if that's your issue).

You mentioned seing a good COM test: when trying to read links off the KPL, what message(s) did you get back? Did you get a failure after 5 attempts? If so, on the very first link?

I decided to try the reset route again. So, first in the plugin I deleted the device. Then I did the factory reset. Then did manual add (note this never worked before, but this time it did!). I included the links it created here for reference. Then, I attempted to program the four buttons as Radio Group 1. The log entries from that are included below - it failed. Communications test says 95%. But the device stats say 54%. Simple ping seems to work but not the programming commands. This device is in the same box, on the same circuit, with two other KPLs (they are I2, not I2CS). They work great. If you conclude this is a communication issue then the I2CS seems worse than the previous generation and I guess I can swap it with another I2 device I have, doing 6/8 button swaps and reprogramming them both. Ugh.

              Mark,

Not to jump to conclusions, but is there a chance that i2CS devices are an issue? I keep going back to my experience where older devices worked fine, even in a power line noise situation, while i2CS devices , on the same circuit, failed.

I'd like to ask the Insteon community: if you have i2CS devices, what is your success rate at integrating them into your environment? If you incurred failures, please share the details. Maybe we can figure a pattern out of all of this.

              I've got a hunch...

I have a couple of new motion sensors / door contacts that are i2CS and they work just fine... but of course they are RF only. I was an X10 user but you know the issues with that and expanding device numbers, and I2 has bee great. I'm really concerned about purchasing more i2CS devices. Is there a conflict with them and I2 devices? Maybe there's a config that let's me dumb-down the device?

                    guys,
i have about 9 i2cs devices and haven't really had any problems with them.

if the the i2cs device didn't receive a msg it liked it would respond as such.

for some reasons the msgs aren't getting through
