    Send Email problem - Solved!

I have a HomeTroller-SE PRO, and am trying to fix an email problem that started several days ago. The log says: Sending email using SMTP: The transport failed to connect to the server.

    Here is what I've tried:
    1. Reboot HomeTroller.
    2. With cmd window, attempt to Telnet to mail server, "connection failed".
    3. Ping mail server, OK.
    4. Tracert mail server, OK.

The Telnet test with the same parameters is fine on other computers on the same LAN.

    Help would be appreciated! --Howard

Which email provider are you using? Some providers have recently changed their smtp ports

      Thanks, Rupp!

I've actually tried several, including my own mail server on a Linux box. I've also tried several ports on my main ISP mail server. Note that the Telnet connections are fine on other computers.

If you want to try from your end, use mail.sonic.net 25.

I am using Comcast and had a similar issue. My solution was to add the port after the address: smtp.comcast.net:587

Comcast stopped using port 25 which was the default, so I changed it to 587 and now the error is gone.

        Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting this. It fixed my problem also.
Such a simple solution but I had no idea that a port number could be added to the server name!

Problem solved, thank you! What threw me was that my tests using Telnet on port 25 worked on one computer, but not on the HomeTroller. However, port 587 did the trick, both with the Telnet test and with sending mail.

I just had the same issue; thanks for posting the fix. Comcast just upgraded their speed to my area, and after a cable modem reboot I could no longer send mail under the old coordinates. I also had to fill in the authentication boxes too.
              Thanks

I love this forum... same problem here popped up a few days ago and just got around to addressing it. Thought it was a network issue on the computer at first!

                Thank you!!

                  Port 587 works

Had this problem on Comcast. As mentioned elswhere, I needed to route through a different port. Thanks to all who helped me out.
